    "Good and betting better"

    December 23, 2007   |   By craigminah

    Version: GameRanger 4.6.7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using Game Ranger for several years now and it works as advertised. Buying Gold or Silver service adds a lot to the games it supports such as voice. Evill (the developer) isn't as responsive as he could be but he does aggressively work issues and resolve them in a timely manner (with one exception).

All in all, this is a great program for mac.

    Summary

The developer trolls the chat rooms as user "evill" looking for people to argue with, 1v1 with, etc. then ban them when they do not kiss his butt. Avoid GameRanger and then man-child developer.

    "Good but..."

    Version: GameRanger 4.5.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Great program that adds to the enjoyment of the various games it supports. However, the developer's methods of fixing bugs takes months, leaving games cripples in the meantime.

If Scott Kevill would fix bugs or roll versions back to known good versions prior to updating them (referring to Ghost Recon lag problem that lasted MONTHS) this would be a great program, as it is, I can't recommend.

Awesome service to play games on Mac, easy setup, nice chat, but a little rowdy and adult-like sometimes. Premium is a little pricey but worth it!

Gameranger forces you to quit kdx before you can run gameranger. The only reason for this is that the develoer of gameranger wants to force people to pay for gamerangers voice chat instead of using kdx netphone.Check the link below and you will see what im talking about.

Still no support for Battlefield 1942. Also, freeware games do not get a lot of attention.

    Version: GameRanger 4.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
If You can afford a game, U can afford GR. That's as far as I'll go on the NF/KDX thing. All the rest of the stuff in the free membership is good enough, right? AND FREE!!

I'm premium, and this update to 4.0.1 fixes minor, but to me important, issues.
4.0 introduced ladders etc.. Cool! =)
This review is an overall rating of the service, the app and what is included of features, and how it's future looks.

To You guys complaining about price and Evill's policies? Get real! Heh. U'r prolly pirates anyway, so.. GL, HF, DIIEEE!

"GameRanger level of anarchy is sad."

    May 07, 2004   |   By -=Someone=-

    Version: GameRanger 3.6.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I love the idea and I appreciate all the work that Scott Kevill has done on GameRanger.

However, GameRanger has some core problems, some of which are external and others internal. These are:

    1. A user experience governed by complete anarchy. The environment of GR allows for people to be people, and as a result there is constant flaming, racism, hatred, and other grossly offensive behavior. This is probably fine for the upper teenage crowd but for younger and older users, it is inappropriate. Moderation only seems to happen when Scott or one of his minions is online and in the mood.

    2. Trolls. These are people who sit on GameRanger and do nothing except insult people and act inappropriately. They rarely play any games, and often chase away newcomers with their behavior.

    3. Lack of participation for certain games. Because of the small Mac market, you can't log in and expect to find a game of Majesty or Heroes of Might and Magic. You will only find the most popular games have anyone in them at all.

I subscribed to Premium but really don't feel like I needed all the Premium benefits. I will try some of the new features but am not sure that they will motivate me to renew.

Your other online community choices seem to be Battle.net and GameSmith.

This is an outstanding service for the Mac, easy to use, well supported and a bargain. If you don't like it, play somewhere else.
