Freeship provides a powerful subdivision surface engine for creating hull models. It offers an easier alternative to traditional NURB-based modeling tools for complex shapes.
  • Pros

    • Subdivision surface engine offers flexibility.
    • No need for rectangular control grids.
    • Greater freedom for modeling knuckle lines.
    • Surfaces can include holes.
    • Complex shapes made with a single surface.
  • Cons

    • No mention of specific file export formats.

Developer’s Description

Create hull models via subdivision surface-based engine.
Freeship is developed to offer an alternative to hullform definition programs based on NURB surface modeling. Most hull modeling packages use these parametric spline surfaces which can be very tricky to use. Freeship uses subdivision surfaces instead, which offer many advantages over NURB surfaces, such as: no need for a rectangular control grid divided into rows and columns; more freedom in modeling knuckle lines; surfaces can contain holes; even the most complex shapes can be created with just one surface; the possibility to insert just one single control point.
