This program aims not just to resize images but to optimize them for particular purposes. Picture Resize's interface looks welcoming, and the minimal help displays right in the interface. A pull-down list lets you resize images to make them suitable for e-mailing, burning to a photo disc, displaying in an instant-messenger program, or publishing online. The Make It Fit utility helps you find image parameters that will create a file of a specific size.
The program also helps you instantly resize multiple files. You can set the Custom option easily, though apparently you can't edit the presets. However, you will find a built-in image editor with basic features, such as drawing tools and a rotation utility. The included tools for creating slide shows and icons are fairly basic, but we consider them nice bonuses.
Folks looking for an easy-to-use image-resizing application with a few useful extras should give this one a try.

Version: Free Picture Resize Starter 4.5.12
Pros: You can resize (and rotate) thousands of images of all sizes to the exact requirements of your image viewer (e.g. ipod) to save memory. It's very fast and easy with this program.
Cons: Very little not to like. The first bulk operation window does not make clear how to resize, but just click continue. As always, test on a copied sample to make sure you don't overwrite important files (which you should have backed up anyway).

Version: Free Picture Resize Starter 4.5.12
Pros: Straightforward and almost all the core features you need for batch resizing your cameras photos. Options for quality, name, folder, file type, file size and even filters!
Cons: The one key thing that is missing is the ability to resize by a percentage! For images that are taken in portrait mode (longer vertically), if you are using a pre-defined resolution, the program uses the lower resolution as the basis for the height and keeps the aspect ratio by selecting an even lower resolution. So while the height is the same, the quality is a lot less for portrait mode shots. (i.e. 1280 x 960 -> 720 x 960 instead of 960 x 1280

"batch resizing great, but DEP error upon shut down..."
Pros: i LOVE how easy it is to batch rezise my images. it handled over 100 at one time and was so fast i didnt even have time to set the computer aside and find something to do while i thought i was going to be waiting. very impressive!
Cons: the draw back, which makes me to wonder if i should uninstall this program and look for another, is that every time i shut down the program it stops responding & triggers a DEP error. the event viewer was of not help, nor googling the error codes.
Summary: i LOVE what the software does and the speed in which it does it, but i cant take a chance of something malicious or something trying to write script living in my computer. :o(
