Editors' Review

Chances are, you have all kinds of sensitive data lurking on your computer that could easily fall into the wrong hands if your machine were ever lost or stolen. Free Password Manager does much more than its name might imply. In addition to storing passwords, this simple utility can securely store all kinds of personal information, making it easy for you--but not others--to access.

The program has a simple but professional-looking interface, with a tree hierarchy down the left side that lets users organize their records in folders. The program comes with a sample database with folders for contacts, credit cards, software, notes, and Web sites, but users can easily create their own custom folders. For each record, users can enter a title, username, account name, URL, and password. The program will also track when each entry was created and modified, and by whom. The built-in Help file provides surprisingly comprehensive documentation, but most users will be able to figure out Free Password Manager on their own; it's quite intuitive. We liked the fact that unlike similar programs we've seen, Free Password Manager is specific about the kind of encryption it uses, stating in the Help file that it's AES encryption with a 256-bit key. We also liked it that Free Password Manager can be used either on your computer or on a portable device, as it comes with an installation wizard specifically for use with USB drives and other portable media. Overall, Free Password Manager is a versatile and easy-to-use tool, and we recommend it.

Free Password Manager installs and uninstalls without issues.

"Great Customizable Password Manager"

 |  Version: Free Password Manager 1.1.16

No Limit on the number of databases
Customizable fields (text and icons)
Personalize Parent/Child directories with your own .ico icons
Many options for fields when creating record forms

Nothing major for something free. Looking for multi-user support on this product. They offer a multi-user version but it is a Server/Client program with some more junk added I wasn't needing.

The people reviewing this product in a terrible light are just ignorant as they don't understand the purpose of this software. This isn't meant to "Auto Store" your crappy passwords to your dirty websites kiddies. Nor is it intended to auto-populate your passwords into the password field for your social networking sites so you can talk to your 1000 "friends" that you met on craigslist.

Its intended for people who have a large number of passwords and OTHER information like credit cards or whatever you can think of needing to be stored in an encrypted/password protected database.

I have recently started to use it to map out all details of small businesses networks that I manage as a contracted I.T. person. It allows me to add custom fields that many other programs didn't provide me a spot to record.

The initial setup of the software can take a long time if your trying to store a lot of data. But in the end, it is worth it.

"1990s Password Thingy"

If you consider wasting your time downloading this thingy as fun, you might consider that fun.

No auto-capture, no auto-login. It's a nostalgia trip back to the 90s.

Get a modern password manager - this is your Grand Ma's password manager.

Updated on Oct 30, 2012

It is NOT a password manager - it is a clipboard with a password - nothing else. Real password managers include Roboform, Dashlane, LoginCode, KeePass, LastPass...even S10 is modern compared to this antique.

Uninstalled OK.

Doesn't do anything- it's just a freaking card you fill out - in other words a clipboard with a password.

Sucks so bad it could remove the chrome off a trailer hitch knob.
