CNET Editors' review
This bare-bones program delivers on its promise, but you can just as easily use the Internet to find the same information. Free Medical Dictionary's ad-supported interface displays medical definitions drawn from various Web sites. You can get the same information, word for word, by searching certain government-based medical sites--and you won't have to look at Google ads. The program's only other feature is a Web Search button. If Free Medical Dictionary could function without the Internet, we could be a bit more enthusiastic about it. However, since it requires a Web connection to function, it's just as easy to cruise the Net. Still, since it is free, medical students and researchers who need a quick reference tool might find some benefit.Publisher's Description

"Online a nuisance; not justified by limited info. ."
Version: Free Medical Dictionary 1.0
Pros
Free; specialist dictionaries useful.
Cons
Nothing for 2 samples : cyclic vomiting & hemiplegic migraine. Not that uncommon eg see no. of hits on Google. Wordweb (not specific medical) has as much info., loads quicker & no need for online. Amount of info. limits its use considerably.
Summary
Online a nuisance; not justified by limited info. provided; number of (not particularly unusual for a specialist dictionary) topics not found unimpressive.

"Lack of much of a memory bank"
Version: Free Medical Dictionary 1.0
Pros
It is not online, I can keep it on my desktop
Cons
The drugs I take were not in it and I would love to have it and correct the words. I don't want 2 pages of information, they limit it right, but I want more words. This is NOT trial ware which I think they sneak to you and I can't afford.
Summary
It needs some serious updating of the database.
-

"Not good for students."
Version: Free Medical Dictionary 1.0
Pros
No pros, but I didn't leave it installed very long.
Cons
I am studying medical terminology with roots, suffixes, prefixes, etc. and this dictionary did not have commonly used words listed.
Summary
If you want it for studying I would recommend finding another medical dictionary.
-
"Not user friendly interface"
Version: Free Medical Dictionary 1.0
Pros
It has a lot of medical conditions
Cons
The interface is not at all user-friendly and the search function in very limited.
Summary
I am looking for a better version of a medical dictionary, this is not at all what I expected when reading the description. There are no back and forward buttons, the search function is extremely limited and not very helpful at all.
-
"This is not to helpful."
Version: Free Medical Dictionary 1.0
Pros
Nothing, this program is pretty useless. Way to basic for actual use.
Cons
The definition's are very basic. They don't really say much. They don't have some very common disorders or syndromes listed. I can do better by going to the Mayo Clinic website and using their search engines for any disease I want to look up.
Summary
This is not a very helpful program. Don't bother with it.
