This download utility is surprisingly attractive and full-featured for a freeware product, and its operation couldn't be more straightforward. To download a file, just click a link in your browser or drag it onto the program's tiny, semitransparent window.
In our comparison tests, Free Download Manager beat out Opera's download manager 85Kbps to 53Kbps. Its automation features also are very good. Like other managers, it can automatically dial a modem, start a download, or shut down the PC. Unlike many of them, it also can change the number of connections depending on download speed, or disconnect and shut down the computer if a file is unavailable.
If you want to boost your download speed for free, this utility is certainly worth a try.

Version: Free Download Manager 3.0 build 848
Pros: Easy to use, manages the downloads very well indeed has helpful progress monitoring, just does the job excellently
Cons: Unfortunatley FDM also quietly installs a bunch of tracking cookies
Summary: A great piece of software, badly let down by sneekily putting spyware on the machine it is installed on. As trust in it plumetted I reluctantly uninstalled it; than having to give my PC a good scrub and dip in disinfectant. A real shame. Due to t... read more >>

"For a straight up download manager, works great"
Pros: Simple interface, no ads, lots of options and control over downloads, resumes broken downloads perfectly, and it's free. Progress tab gives nice view of actual file progres for each connection within a file.
Cons: None so far.
Summary: Boggling to me that this functionality isn't bundled in with the browsers or operating systems, but this is a solid tool that gets the job done with no headache.

"NOTICE 2 EDITOR Adware lunches mult invisible IE brwsrs"
Pros: This app would be nice to have if it didn't launch 2 to 25 invisible IE browser windows. One day I saw 25 IE listings in my task manager and I didn't have a single IE browser open !!!!! I dd a little digging and found THIS PROGRAM was the culprit.
Cons: If using Win7, open Task Manager to see the multiple IE windows that this app launches, beginning a couple minutes after startup. I removed this app and the multiple invisible IE browser window problem went away.
Summary: AVOID Until the author of this app comes clean.
