• An abominable ruination of a once great product

  Where do I begin? This product used to be one of the best free audio converters on the internet. It used to be the easiest to use as well. But the following list is why this version and most likely all future versions of this product will be complete crap. ? Paywall to access full features that were previously enabled in all editions of Version 4. ? Free version is chock full of adware and ads within the interface. ? Free version now includes a 10 second watermark at the beginning of each converted track. Have to go into an audio editing program to remove. The only way to use the product like I used to be able to it would cost me $20. Sorry, but I can do much better for $0.

  None that I can think of.

  Cons

  Free version inserts an "audio watermark" at the beginning and end of your converted music files, turning your converted files into garbage. You can pay to remove this, but previous versions didn't have this "feature." Cannot drag and drop file folders containing music files into the converter, as in previous versions. Cannot multi-select file folders containing files to convert. Contains ads!

  Summary

  This used to be a great tool to convert audio files into other formats. Now, it is worthless. DVDVideoSoft has gotten greedy, so I'll be using a different tool to convert files going forward.

  Hijacked my browser after installation, puts yahoo as default search engine and removes the others. Gives adds.

  Free to use, but I would not recommend. Use offliberty to download from youtube.

• Great Product for Many Years but

  Does exactly what it says it can do.

  Cons

  Malware, www.heaartvalutdll.com, that is blocked by Norton so quickly that the installation program is removed from my computer and it just started 3 days ago when I tried to update.

  Summary

  I love this product, have used for years but 2016's update contains Malware that is really bad. Shame on DVDSoft for doing this to their customers.

• Great for converting into aac

  Pros

  I usually download from YouTube in 720p as it goes with the best sound (up to 192k) and then I use this app to convert it to aac (for my iPhone).

  Cons

  Works fine. There is no virus, it's just Open Candy, you can just uncheck boxes when installing.

  No known pros, unless perhaps you have an older copy.

  Norton would not even permit the download (Jan 9, 2016), from either of 2 "reputable" sites (including Cnet).

  Summary

  "This threat has been removed. No further action is needed." Basically all you need to know.

• A wonderful product - just littered with PC poisons

  Pros

  DVD VideoSoft (which now also calls itself "Digital Wave") has released a remarkable suite of tools, including this free Audio Converter, which offers every facility and fine nuance (all right, "variation of parameter") that you could ever wish for. Make teeny tiny MP3's or great big whopping conversions to the highest possible quality - it's all here. And for free? It's almost too good to be true.

  ...It IS too good to be true. As they say in Russia, you only get free cheese in a rat-trap. Download this muck and your computer will be riddled with malware, much of which is invisible to orthodox anti-virus software. That doesn't mean it's not there in your PC, beavering away to spy on your internet activity and threaten your system. Truly, this software is absolute poison. And the best thing is: you can pay $10 per year to be eligible for their de luxe aftercare! Good money to have your system ruined.

  I am dismayed to see CNET continuing to endorse and disseminate software which they have been told by reviewers time and again is corrupt and corrupting. Clearly our warnings are neither read nor checked nor believed. So, since we're not taken seriously, lads: here's the drill. (1) Run a full system scan on a new computer. Load whatever anti-virus software you like (I use AVG and Avast) but be sure to include too Malware Bytes and - say - Spyhunter. (2) Download anything from DVD Videosoft. The full Free Studio caboodle if you like. (3) Run a full scan again. Still think we're talking twaddle? Shame on you, boys. Shame on you. And if you don't halve time to check out software thoroughly: don't supply it on your site.

• Really crap s/w full of malware and viruses.

  There are no pros for this s/w. I had to give this thing 1 star to be able to post but if I could give it a minus 5 I would do so.

  I agree with most of the negative comments here. This is the worst piece of crap s/w that Cnet has ever offered. The editors did really fall asleep on this one. The editors at Cnet have lost credibility with me. If the s/w was a baby that I had given Cnet to babysit they would have killed the baby. AT ALL COSTS STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS S/W AS POSSIBLE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR O/S INTACT! THIS S/W ACTUALLY RAPES YOUR MACHINE. IT CRASHED MINE AND I'M RUNNING KASPERSKY! It's chock full of malware and viruses. It WILL work fine for a few days even if you decline all the added s/w they try to push on you. But after a few days after using their audio editor and audio converter weird things start happening and your machine starts slowing down more and more. And then the occasional BSOD. After that it's all over but the crying. Had to save what I could from the corrupted disc and install a clean version of windows on a new disc. Took me hours and hours of work that I really couldn't spare.

I don't understand why it works on some machines and not on others. My problem could have been that I was using BOTH their editor AND converter. I don't know. All know is that after I started using this s/w everything was fine for 3 or 4 days and then all of a sudden everything came to a grinding halt. I was trying to edit and convert some old saved cassette music. Suddenly I had a BSOD for no apparent reason. Got the machine back up again and then another one and finally wouldn't boot anymore. To say I was EXTREMELY ticked is a gross understatement. Hours and hours of work to get a new drive up and running. Reload all the necessary s/w. And save as much as possible from the corrupted drive. If the s/w works for you. Fine. Good for you. As in all things, user and buyer beware. I would NEVER touch it again. I don't want to have to say, I told you so. Good luck with it.

• Beware - This Application Contains Malware/Virus

  Was easy to install.

  Cons

  The second the program was launched, I got a pop-up from my Malware scanner saying that "PUP.Optional.OpenCandy" had been installed on my PC. I also noticed that another application called "DVD Video Soft - Free Studio Manager". I did not download this file, I did not install this file, I did not want this file. This download package is full of spyware, malware and viruses. User beware!!
