In spite of its simple concept, this free Firefox add-on proves to be a handy addition to Mozilla's browser. As you might guess from its name, ForecastFox gives you instant access to current and upcoming weather from directly within Firefox. As soon as you enter your zip code or city name, the program will automatically retrieve the current conditions and the forecast for the rest of the day. ForecastFox lets you dock its toolbar--containing either icons, text, or both--in several locations, including Firefox's menu bar and navigation bar. Mousing over an icon returns weather-related data, and you can enable or disable any of the program's features, including its nifty Radar feature (complete with satellite image). You can also customize icons, choose between Celsius or Fahrenheit, and create different location profiles for those long-distance commuters.
ForecastFox also lets you decide how many days in the future you want to see weather, though it lacks 10-day or two-week forecasts. Any Firefox user who keeps an eye on the weather will appreciate this extension's convenience factor as well as the fact that it's free.
Publisher's description
From Ensolis :ForecastFox is an extension that brings international weather from AccuWeather.com to your Firefox web browser. You can use your US zip code or you can easily find your town or city by using the built in search tool. It is unobtrusive and lightweight, yet can be customized to display nearly as much data as the leading desktop weather programs. If you can't find what you are looking for, double-click the weather icons displayed to open the AccuWeather.com forecast for that day.
A slider, similar to when popup notification for when all downloads complete, pops up from the bottom right corner of your screen when the current conditions are updated. You can even set what appears in it or disable it.
CNET Editor's Note: The Download Now link will prompt a local download of the Firefox extension. To install the extension directly, open the file using your Firefox browser.

Cons: The only con is that the browser has to be going and I cant have just on the desktop all the time Can not think of any other real cons at all for this little app.
Summary: I have used this since it came out and though it hasnt really changed much, and most things do keep vital by constantly upgrading updating and all kinds of interface tweaks that after 2 yrs i cant tell them from the original. For some it is good fo... read more >>
