    "flightcheck pro"

    August 03, 2006   |   By Creative Mac

    Version: FlightCheck Professional 5.8

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
after tweaking the ground controls to match printer requirements, this ap is absolutely worthless when checking quark 6.5 and indesign cs2 files.

does not acknowledge revisions to the open file: quark and indesign files have to be reopened; all fonts have to be included before opening file; if you have it checking for non pantone colours, it will find colors that are not in the file; it finds fonts that are not in the file.

collecting fonts is problematic; have to check the font suitcase before sending out.

actually have to check all of the files after using flightcheck just to make sure that the files are okay.

so what is the point of using this software.

    Version: FlightCheck Professional 5.7

Earlier versions were problematic but 5.7 is getting it back on track. Could be more friendly about this "flightplan" feature.

    "must-have tool for the pre-press"

    November 14, 2005   |   By ehaverkamp

    Version: FlightCheck Professional 5.7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There were some problems in the past when Mac OS switched from version 9 to X, but this new version just puts FlightCheck back on the map.

I use FlightCheck everyday and I think it's still is an awesome program, because of the following reasons:
It simply does what it's supposed to do and it's a program you can trust when you want to be sure you're document is ready to print.

What i mean is: It saves you a lot of time and does a lot of work for you if you compare it to checking your document with just your own eyes. It checks all kinds of things in your document like trapping, colors, image resolution, fonts, etc, etc.
Therefore, in my opinion, it's a five star must-have tool for the pre-press.

"Added support for Adobe CS2 products ?!?!?!?!"

WHO CARES !?!?! Adobe Indesign does an amazing job on it's own collecting the files properly and quickly. When trying to use FlightCheck... Ahhh, forget it. There's no point expressing what most people have been expressing for the longest time now. As I'm writing this, I must apologize. I guess people have given up. There hasn't been a review on this terrible program since 5/19/05. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS PROGRAM JUST ISN'T !!! UPGRADE THAT IN YOUR PROGRAM !!!

"Flightcheck Professional a plus for the print world"

    May 19, 2005   |   By Lisa Klein

    Version: FlightCheck Professional 5.52

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Flightcheck professional saves time and money from graphic design to print work. It takes out the worry of whether all your files and fonts are available for your printer to complete the job. If you do not have extra time making sure that your printer has all your files and fonts to complete the job in a timely manner, you need this program.

Flightcheck also makes you aware of any conflicts in fonts and colors and recommends a fix for the problem, educating you at the same time...how great is that!

I use Flightcheck on a monthly basis mainly for a magazine publication. Deadlines and time are key issues. So there is no time to waste. Flightcheck is one of the last run throughs I do to make sure all files are ready for print.

If you could click on the problem and it directly go to that program would be an added feature I would love to see. Can that be done?

    Version: FlightCheck Professional 5.52

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used flightcheck for more than seven (7) years on a daily basis. It was the BEST program out there on OS9 for checking all manner of files. But, since 5.0 thru 5.52 on OSX the program has SUCKED. It is almost useless and a huge waste of time.

    Version: Markzware FlightCheck 5.10

    Summary

    ...problem
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
When I first used FlightCheck it arrived as a beta on a floppy and I thought it was an interesting program but not ready for prime time. Then as tifs got larger, and large format film became the norm, I discovered versions 2 & 3 were an absolute god-send. They were so good that they actually helped me train my staff on what good prepress looked like.

Now, 10 years later it's hopeless. The interface is brutal, the app is slow, ownership is expensive and intrusive [Extensis has the same annoying practice of signing in to download upgrades]. As everyone has mentioned, it is incredibly inaccurate. It's to the point where I ignore most of its warnings and focus only on 2 or 3 basic functions.

I could list a hundred problems with this app but the big picture is telling. They don't really care about writing great software, and if you want to do great work you need great software. When they started this app they blazed trails with it, now it's a hold-over from days gone by and has no modern features or usefulness.

It's even obnoxious that they're using Version Tracker's feedback forum instead of creating their own under their own domain. Judging from the other feedback here, they may regret it. They might also start from scratch. We'll see.

"Not a worthy effort - not worth your money"

    March 23, 2005   |   By jonathan13--2008

    Version: FlightCheck Professional 5.5.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used this application in a professional setting for months and have taught many others how to use it. I never cease to be amazed at how poorly designed and executed this program is. The interface is hard to read and hard to interpret. It looks like it was designed in the 80's. More to the point, the reporting is not always accurate. It can flag a font as missing when it isn't. It may flag an image as 72dpi when it isn't. The "Go To" button in the Page Geometry window doesn't work at all. The Page Geometry window itself doesn't expand properly, and the file list is too narrrow to read the file names. The collect feature does not seem to work consistently. Whether Markzware knows it or not, this is an embarassement to their company. IMHO, they should either put every resource they have into a fully functional easy-to-use FREE upgrade SOON, or quit pretending and pull this product althogether. Better yet, I would love to see a competitor come out with a product that does what FlightCheck only pretends to do. What is the negative of stars? Moons? I give this a one moon. One star is too generous.
