We have had reports that Fiwi is not able to manage Finder windows as expected when run on a retina screen.
As a temporary fix please use the Fiwi set up app provided. In the Finder please set up the two windows exactly as you wish them to appear, run Fiwi set up and choose Windows Settings. In the ensuing dialog box choose Set Customised Windows. Fiwi will maintain those settings correctly. To change size or orientation please use Fiwi set up again.
If you use Spaces: in the "Expose & Spaces" preference pane, in tab "Application Assignements" please add Finder and choose "Every Space" from the pop up menu in tab "Space". Enable Guy Scripting in Applescript Utility to optimise performance with other applications.

Only complaint is that it is a bit sluggish (on both dual core Airbook and iMac). There was a similar application back in OS9 days (I vaguely recall that it was an extension with perhaps a control panel) that was literally instantaneous - worked from the menu bar. However, now that we are in OSX/Intel land, I'll just take an extra breath and enjoy not having to rearrange and drag with multiple motions.

It has consistently performed well and now that it works with Safari Pages and TextEdit etc has become indispensable to me. I love the shift key toggle rows/columns. Give it a go and I am sure you'll never dispose of it. The developers are responsive and keep listening to users in adding new features. The price is right and I think Fiwi pays for itself in under a month in time saved, guaranteed.

The upgrades constantly improved it and my top feature is the way you can set it up to show the two windows side by side or one on top of the other by default so easily. I also love the way the dialog message goes away by itself even if you do not choose. The price is right and the developer responds very quickly.

Saves me headaches and time dealing with moving stuff around on the Mac. Easy to use. Nice support ( I got an answer from developer in half an hour from my email) It does what it promises to do easily and quickly It did not fail so far. Could not fault the price I recommend it. I particularly like the fact that the dialog box went away by itself and I got the two windows without having to do anything. I just clicked on it and I was set. Cool!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. One the things I've always felt Windows had the edge over OS X with is working with multiple windows at once. Having the taskbar in Windows clearly lets you see how many windows you have open and allows you to easily switch between them. Obviously one of the things this makes easier is moving files between two directories quickly. They're a few things in OS X to compensate for this; showing small versions of all the windows on screen at once with the press of a button and choosing which to focus on (or assigning this action to a hot corner), spring loaded folders etc, but nothing that makes moving files as easy in Windows in my opinion. This application opens two finder windows side by side (or one on top of the other), or if a finder window is already open another window next to it. Sounds simple, but when moving files around it definitely has saved me time since I tried it. One thing I'd like to see would be the ability to customise the finder window sizes (i.e. if no windows are already open they both open at the specified size, if one is already open it is resized to the specified size). If this isn't possible, just not having the extend underneath the dock would would be an improvement. It would also be nice if it didn't change the size of other finder windows, say when you open the Mac HD disk icon on the desktop mine is now at the size of the pwrwndws windows, but I have a suspicion this is due to the strange way Leopard seems to remember finder view settings.

Developer is very responsive and has issued two free updates already. Not bad for a less than a dollar appl. I wish the big boys (prices) were that efficient! Thanks once more for making my life easier managing filed to and from my folders.

Then got a message that told me that my "variable myShift is not defined" Did it twice, same result. Sorry, I only do people english, not computer geek english which uses English words, but does not communicate anything. So, not worth the $.99 cents.

Thank you for your interest in Fiwi. Fiwi is a compact, faceless (it has no interface per se) application to help with moving files and folders via 2 symmetrical Finder windows quickly and effortlessly. I found it really helps saving time and avoid confusion. Fiwi provides the 2 symmetrical Finder windows on the desktop, side by side (columns) or one on top of the other (rows) or and quits freeing all memory (RAM). The windows clear the dock wherever you keep it ( bottom right or left of the screen) and have a small gap between them. It works with dual screen systems. Why does Fiwi exist? I always move this file to here, that folder from there and reorganise my computer so I can find information quickly when I need it. I spend a lot od time creating new finder windows. It can become caotic. Some time ago I realized you really need only 2 well arranged windows to move any file or folder from one place, like the Download folder for example, to the folder inside which you want it to live. I though one must be able to call these two windows up easily and quickly when needed. They should cover enough of the desktop and hide almost all the icons and open windows behind them. The software ought to preserve the window with the selected file (the one to move) and set up another one in which one can select the destination folder. This would save all the resizing, repositioning and set up in a very efficient and pleasant way for the job ahead. Hence Fiwi was born. Just put it in the dock and on the sidebar of your Finder windows, double/click on Fiwi and start mooving information from a to b, that simple! I reckoned a utility like Fiwi it's going to be worth less than a dollar because it performs such a small job. I use Fiwi untold times on a daily basis. I am sure you will too.
