The Firebird Project is a commercially independent project of C and C++ programmers, technical advisors and supporters developing and enhancing a multi-platform relational database management system based on the source code released by Inprise Corp (now known as Borland Software Corp) on 25 July, 2000. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

Version: Firebird 2.5.0.20343
"Full of features and high performance. It's free!"
Pros: Easy to install
Stored procedures and triggers
High performance
Belongs to a community, so it can't be sold (like MySQL)
Royalty free even for comercial applicationsCons: I'm glad I don't have anything against Firebird.
Summary: Firebird is invisible to my customer. They don't see it being installed and running. Until 10 workstations I allow my customer use it on a non-dedicated server, many times without a no-break. I trust in Firebird. Firebird rocks.

Pros: Installing Firebird on any Linux system is simple from a distribution or source.
It is easy to manage and support once installed.
There are solid Open Source project that support it (IBPP C++ Interface, ODBC, ADODB, etc)Cons: Documentation (other than the Firebird Book and Support Forums) is a bit scattered.
A Wiki would be nice.Summary: It is free. It works. It is solid. It performs.
I have it working on a 500 MHz Solid State embedded PC and a multi-CPU server with gigs of RAM and disk. It is extremely flexible.
All the things I need to create projects and... read more >> - See all 2 user reviews Write review
