Small and swift, Find and Run Robot makes searching files and launching programs go faster than a Black Friday deal. Also known as FARR, the program is great for those who love options. If you're the indecisive type, you may want to stay clear.

Running in your system tray, FARR is innocuous and uses little RAM. Hit the Pause/Break key to bring up the launching window; as you type, FARR narrows down your choices. In that sense, FARR functions like many other launchers. Search results are numbered and automatically sorted using built-in scoring systems unique to the program. If you want returned-result number nine, for example, simply type ALT+9 and hit enter--there's no need to touch the mouse or continue typing a longer string. A Launch History tab keeps track of what you've launched.

While the launching and searching functions are fairly basic, the options are almost overwhelming. Users can do nearly anything with the app, from adjusting the font size, style, and color to monitoring your clipboard, taking basic screen captures, Web searches, customizing hot keys, and calculation functions. FARR is also fully portable, making this a must-have whether you're on a desktop or a laptop.

None! May seem confusing to those who have never used a keystroke launcher before.
Summary
I switch to this program because Launchy's memory leak problem was getting out of control. Other than Launchy this is the only keystroke launcher I have found that will learn/rerank resaults based on your selections. For example to launch Opera the first time I had to type "Oper" before it selected Opera. The next time I just typed "op" and Opera was the first result! The memory usage of FARR is also very good. After extended use it only uses 12mb of ram. I've seen Launchy use up to 200mb after a few days. This is because FARR doesn't use and index so the only thing in memory is the program. This lack of an index also gives you up to date resaults with out constant reindexing. This program has tons of features, and options but the two described above are what make this program awesome and a great replacement for you favorite keystroke launcher.

Love the 'finder' part! Still working on the 'run' part!

Too complicated! lacks simplicity in search parameter explanations. Nooeds more 'KISS'.

Worked out of the box. Remembers and prioritizes previous selections.
Cons
Bit of a learning curve to figure out it's options (there are a lot). Prefers to use a special update application. Disabled, will use Download.Com notification of updates.

Works. Staying on my Vista system as a base application.

Unobtrusive, very quick and it works 90% of the time. Not flashy, but gets the job done.

I have been using "Start Ease" for years (Which is offered by PC World) and it has done a decent job. I rate Start Ease as 6 on a on a scale of 1 to 10. So far, Find and Run Robot 2.30.01, gets an 8 out of 10.

Find and Run Robot is a program for keyboard maniacs. It helps you rapidly find programs or documents from within the depths of the start menu (or other directories). One key press launches the utility, and then just starts typing the first letters of the application you want to launch. As you type the best matches are shown, just hit the number to launch the associated program.
