  Really has nothing going for it

  Horrible GUI. Very awkward navigation. Very little information can be entered compared with more fully featured products. And you WILL want more features after only a few hours of use. So this is a pointless product even for beginners. Eg: small details like partners. Assumes "wife". Cannot enter partner. Can it handle same sex partnerships? Research seems to be very USA-centric. For all its simplicity it is actually not very easy or intuitive to use.

  Not easy. Little information. It is not a fraction of My Heritage Family Tree Builder. Basically un-usable.

  This did not load onto my computer. I have Windows 8. After installation, I tried to open the program and it said that it can't open and it is probably a bad sector on my hard drive. Not on a new computer guys.... Also, upon downloading and installing this, it loaded some extra software, changed my homepage settings, loaded a toolbar from Whitesmoke, whatever that is, tried installing add-ons to firefox, etc.

  This is a free 17 meg, excellent program. I ran into the CD jewel case number without reading the comments about that issue here. I went to the home site and saw "When you are asked to enter a serial number, enter the following: 1A752-42184-B74A3-AD752 . Topic Closed?

  Pros

  Enter this serial number when prompted 1A752-42184-B74A3-AD752 Imported family tree data from another fam tree builder very easily,only took a couple mins. If you have a lot of members in your fam. tree, split it to make 2 or more trees.

  A good program,easy and free to use.Has online back-up,smart search,etc. Recommend this one,especially for those just starting their Family Trees.

  For those who say they need a serial number, CNET provides one, it's just not very visible. Use 1A752-42184-B74A3-AD752. This software allows you to do all the basic in a very organized fashion. Don't ever use My Heritage, which tries to pass itself off as Family Tree Legends. A toolbar will install that is nearly impossible to remove.

  You need a serial number just to get into the program. This is not free as advertised.

  Summary

  No restrictions? I downloaded this based on the other reviews. The first thing it does is ask you what type of Internet connection you have. The second thing it demands is the serial number off of the CD case. Since I downloaded this, I obviously didn't have a CD case or serial number. If you click "Cancel", the program ends. There's no way around it. I wish CNET would vet some of these classifications better.

  Pros

  Simple to use, uses standard formats, and has a lot of niceties like automatically filling in last names, comparing facts to search for duplicates, etc. It also makes charts and reports that are nice to pass along.

  Cons

  It starts to get slow as you add more people - my 6500-person family tree has now bogged it down to a crawl. And trying to make those nice charts becomes time-consuming. It won't output charts for me anymore because my family tree is too big.

  Summary

  It's good for starters - if you're sure your family tree isn't big, or you don't intend to go too far (but believe me, it gets addicting). As you get farther along, you'll want to find something else to upgrade, which shouldn't be too hard because a GEDCOM format they can output to is standard.
