What's new in this version:
Version 1.5 adds closed captioning support and bug fixes.
I've already said what I like about this program in previous reviews of earlier versions so I won't repeat. The main thing I noticed with this release is that it has the option to scan the on air program guide in the background when it is active.
The same. No analog which many low power local stations now use. Need to load codecs to optimize its performance.
I still love it! Simple, small and does what I want. I have an ATI graphics card which has AVIVO video converter and it does a fantastic job of shrinking large HDTV DVR-MS files to other formats that fit on portable media players but still looks good.
I've used the other bloated programs including Windows Media Center. I'll stay with Easy HDTV DVR.
This new version is even better. It allows you to set an external drive for the video buffer when not recording thus eliminating read/writes to the primary hard drive which is a lot when watching an hour long HDTV show.
Maybe not for those who don't know how to install codecs. It really shines when tweaked with right ones.
This is still my favorite DVR software for my laptop and I use it almost everyday. Works great on Windows 7 64-bit with the right codecs installed.
Simple. Easy HDTV DVR allows me to choose the decoders I want, both audio and video. Very low resource use recording in background. Easy channel select/deselect. Unlike MCE, a right click of the mouse lets you get to the all the settings. Beautiful!
Records in dvr-ms format.(I actually prefer it for later conversion as .ts files are too prone to data drops that converters don't like and tend to crash.) Basic viewing, recording, scheduling. No analog.
Not a lot of fancy stuff but what it has works. There is even a newer version on their web site and a 64 bit version which I am using on my Win7 64 laptop. I've tried, and even purchased, many of the other DVR programs and always come back to this one. For me, the others are not near as reliable. Excellent customer service using email. They have always responded in a few hours to my questions.

Very basic viewer and recorder. Works well on my 64 bit Windows 7 laptop with the DVICO 5 usb tuner.
Doesn't have the bells and whistles of the larger programs but none of the headaches either. No analog.
I like it! Simple setup and use. Works better than MCE in my opinion as you can actually see what your setting up instead of it all being done behind the scene. It records in dvr-ms format which I prefer. I've has problems with Transport Stream recording having data breaks which video converters don't like. The dvr-ms files are also a bit smaller than ts files.

Forgot to mention their customer service is excellent. I lost my registration code when my old laptop died. I emailed them and had the code several hours later! I think it was 3-4 years ago when I bought the previous version. Very impressed.
Very small size. Not bloatware. It worked on my Vista Home Premium notebook with DVICO Fusion HDTV5 USB Gold tuner without any tweaking. Listed as $35 but site now has it at $30. Very easy to set up and use. Simple program guide, click to record.
No manual or help files but easy to figure how to use. If you don't have the right decoders already installed you will have to find them. I'm using the NVIDIA Video decoder and the InterVideo NonCSS Audio Decoder for Sasem on Vista Home Premium.
Great simple non-bloated program! If your looking for DVR/PVR software that just does what it's supposed to do without a bunch of hard to setup bells and whistles then this is it. And yes, it does pause, rewind etc. and you don't have to worry about deleting the buffered file after watching if you didn't record. It does it automatically! For me this beats the other bloatware that costs $60-70. I've tried them and nothing but headaches. Get this if you like things simple!
