Find and remove duplicate video files in various formats, scales, and bitrates.
Duplicate Video Search is a duplicate file finder which is specifically designed for finding duplicate videos. It doesn't merely compare file names or control checksums; the program compares videos by the actual content. This is especially important, because you may have files with different names but same content, or identical videos in different formats. Unlike traditional duplicate file finders, Duplicate Video Search can easily identify duplicates among them. Using its content-based algorithm, the program literally looks at the actual contents of the files in the selected folder, compares them against each other, and then arranges similar videos into groups. The program identifies the original and duplicates in a group and does so regardless of their location on the disk or format. An original remains unmarked, while all duplicates are marked automatically with ticks in the checkboxes next to each one.
It lacks the possibility to ignore some data from finding.

A good program

Pros
Yep, finds duplicates.
Possibly useful if you only have two files and want to personally place the checkmark beside the box to mark one for deletion. If you're willing to do all the work, this will find the duplicates for you to sit and check the boxes beside. If you want an automated solution you need to look elsewhere.
Cons
As close to worthless as a program like this can be. No dropdown menus, no options to choose which videos to mark for deletion. Look at their own screenshots. They larger (original) .mov is checked for deletion instead of the smaller .mkv.
There is no way to choose which files you want to mark. This will delete your originals if you let it.
Summary
The only possible way this is a useful program is if you want to manually walk through each duplicate and choose the specific one you want to keep. Otherwise you'll end up deleting lots of best-quality duplicates and keeping the low res or clipped videos taken from the originals.
No customer service after your credit card clears.
Put the money you were going to flush down the toilet on this program towards the expert edition of Eric Bohain's Video Comparer. If you need for this type of video fingerprinting/comparing/deleting software you're going to end up buying it anyway after this one doesn't work anyway.
I'm not the first one to mention it in these reviews, either. Trust us. Just buy Video Comparer from the start.
It actually works

Pros
Seems to works with all video formats. I have plenty of them and all were processed
Cons
the screenshot here doesn't match the actual program version
Summary
The great thing about this program - it can detect the same movie stored in 720p and 1080p resolutions. I decided to keep only 1080p ones and this program was a great help
Gets the job done when it works

Pros
Is REALLY good at finding duplicates.
Cons
I bought the program when I was using Windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 8.1, installed Duplicate Video Search again and now it's stuck in trial mode.
Tried contacting the publisher, pointless. This company has no post sale service. Be warned.

Wasted my money buying this.

Updated on Jan 5, 2014
Since my review I have tried Video Comparer. That's a great piece of software. I found it to be faster and more accurate and that publisher allows for multiple activations if you upgrade your hardware.
Don't bother with Duplicate Video Search.
Looks like an unique program

Pros
It works! Really identifies converted video files as duplicates. I never seen a program of such kind before
Cons
user interface does not looks modern
Summary
I don't have much video files, therefore it was a surprise for me that I have the duplicated among my videos. Useful program for those who want to save some wasted hard drive space
Great program... mostly

Pros
One of only 2 consumer programs I've found that will find similar video files. And it does just as a good job and is much easier to use IMO.
It's also cheap. The other program charges $130+ (100 Euros) for a fully functional version of their program while DVS is currently only $19.
Cons
It may take several runs with different settings to find all the dupes or you'll have to sift through a flood of false positives.
It also tends to choke and either lock up or crash on some video files, especially MPG and VC-1 encoded WMV files, for no apparent reason even with the slow search method enabled.
The top menu bar does not work on x64 operating systems. The program is still functional, just a bit more annoying to use without the menus.
The biggest annoyance is when you buy it, you get a key locked to your hardware fingerprint. So whenever your hardware fingerprint changes (reinstalling windows, changing a HD, and changing video cards have all done it to me), you'll have to request a new serial number via email which can take a few hours or a few days. And if they ever stop supporting the program, it'll become useless as soon as your hardware ID changes again.
Summary
Also, any issues with the site having vulnerabilities as listed in the previous review have apparently been cleared up. Most likely the issue was a false positive due to the trial software being hosted on their old domain of visualsearchpony.com via an automatic redirect from their new domain, which is fairly common with Google's safe browsing tool.
The current Google Safe Browsing report shows:
What is the current listing status for duplicatevideosearch.com?
This site is not currently listed as suspicious.

Pros
none loaded it and it kept crashing
Cons
search for this software on the web it shows up as a reported attack site
Summary
I saw the warnings and knew nothing was getting past my hardware and software firewalls so I tried it. Really wanted it to work as a have a TON of videos that I wanted to check. Wasn't until I clicked on help icon in the program that it tried to open a vulnerability. Norton caught it right away so no harm done.
