This simple application unzips files in a snap--even the RAR files that the Windows tool can't open--but just a little user guidance would be nice.
When you install DropZip, it automatically adds an icon to the Quick Launch toolbar. Drag ZIP or RAR files onto the programs icon, and DropZip quickly decompresses them. The program can zip folders too, although it only handles one at a time.
Here's the catch: if you remove the program from the Quick Launch toolbar, you won't be able to unzip or zip files. Unlike similar programs, it doesn't offer Windows integration or allow you to launch the program and unzip files. Drag and drop isn't one way to unzip your files, it's the only way with this freeware program.
A basic help file would go a long way in preventing any user confusion. That said, DropZip is a nice complement to standard Windows file compression tools, and it costs nothing to use.
Publisher's description
From Greg Hughes :You can drag a ZIP or RAR file (or even multiple ZIP/RAR files) onto the DropZip icon and they will be magically unzipped into a folder with the same name as each ZIP or RAR file, for example. Drag your Zip file hello.zip from My Documents onto the icon. Look in My Documents, there will be a new folder called hello.
It also has another feature if you drop a folder (it must be one folder on its own) then that folder will be converted to a ZIP file (note the folder won't be deleted). This is not designed to be a replacement for your normal ZIP or RAR programs; instead, it is designed for convenience when you need to quickly unzip or unrar something.

"one of the best and most useful apps i've EVER seen!"
Pros: This is an amazing program and is so pratical. I have honestly never seen such a good program as this. Just drag-and-drop onto the program and "Voila!" Extracted!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!!!

Version: DropZip 1
Pros: Works fine, but ONLY as a drag and drop application, it extracts the files and puts them in a subdirectory named the same as the file you drop...
Cons: Unusual interface, but its free so I don't mind.

Version: DropZip 1
Pros: It's free, it does what it claims. Note that it asks to be installed as an icon in the quick launch area. If you don't disable that option, then it works fine. Just drop zip or rar files on to the icon, and it will unstuff for you and put it back in the same folder. Quick and handy for small jobs.
Cons: A Readme would have been nice, to explain how it is to be used. If you just launch the program normally, all it does is show a DOS screen and exit after a second. It looks like it crashed, but it is a normal exit (because it has nothing to do). It would be better to put up a message that instructs people on how it is to be used, rather than just exiting with no message.

Version: DropZip 1
Pros: Works great as advertised. Simply install the program and whenever you wish to decompress a file, drag the file to the DropZip shortcut and drop it. DropZip will do the rest and very quickly I might add.

"Does exactly what it says it does."
Pros: Everything. It installed perfectly. I then tested it with several different files to see if it functioned... it DOES WORK. I am on an HP Desktop and an HP laptop running Windows XP with 256MB memory on both. The program works on both systems. Just drag and drop. How simple could it be?
Cons: Nothing to complain about because it does exactly what it says it does.
