This tool extracts driver files from your system into a safe directory, but most users may find it feature-poor. DriverExtractor's straightforward interface resembles your Windows Device Manager. The program displays all found drivers in a standard tree list. You can easily choose to view Windows and Non-Windows drivers separately. Quickly view the properties of each device driver with a click of a toolbar button. DriverExtractor efficiently saves your driver files to a backup directory. It also provides quick access to system properties and the Add New Hardware dialog box. However, the backup function falls short because it lacks compression and encryption. Also, merely presenting a shortcut to Windows Add New Hardware feature does not constitute a re-install feature. Users searching for a complete driver backup and reinstall utility will pass on this one.

At device driver installation, driver files are copied from a specified location to system folders and get integrated into Windows. DriverExtractor can reverse the installation process by searching for all device driver files, retrieving them from Windows system folders and coping into a specified location. Basically, DriverExtractor creates a driver files folder, that can be later used to install this driver back into the system.
