"Free version sends system information to Dr. Web"

    January 21, 2014   |   By XandroHernandez

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 9.0

    Pros

Supposedly it does not install in the computer. I decided not to use the program because of the reasons below.

    Cons

The free version sends scanning statistics and system information to Doctor Web, but no personal information. I suppose there is no way to opt out of that unless you purchase the paid version.

    Summary

    Dr.Web CureIt! statistics

WARNING! By downloading the free version of Dr.Web CureIt! you agree that, while scanning your computer, Dr.Web CureIt! will be sending the scanning statistics and your system information to Doctor Web. This information will help Doctor Web analyse in-depth the global anti-virus security situation and perfect the detecting and curing routines incorporated into Dr.Web products.

No personal information that may help reveal your identity will be transmitted by Dr.Web CureIt!! from your computer.

Information transferred during system scanning by Dr.Web CureIt!
CPU parameters (name, technical description, current and maximum speed, number of cores and logical processors).
RAM parameters (total and available at the time of scanning physical and virtual memory).
Operating system configuration (name, version, build, installed service packs, boot mode, current account privileges—user or administrator—, regional settings).
Information about the installed anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall.
Information about threats found by Dr.Web (type and name, type and name of infected objects, actions applied to the objects and, if necessary, their file hash).
Overall Dr.Web scanner statistics (scanning end time, total files and objects scanned, number of suspicious objects, number of detected malicious programs of each type).
Overall statistics about actions applied by the Dr.Web scanner (number of objects to which no action was applied and the number of cured, deleted, moved, renamed and ignored objects).

Such information is transmitted under Doctor Web's privacy policy: company.drweb.com/policy/.

The paid version of Dr.Web CureIt! has the option to reject sending statistics to Doctor Web.

    "An Amazing Piece Antimalware!"

    January 18, 2014   |   By Not-My-Problem

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 9.0

    Pros

Simple, easy to use user interface.
    Very quick and thorough scans.
    Extremely light on your CPU.
    Free, and effective.
Features rootkit detector that doesn't require you to restart your computer to use it!
Smartly disguises the process name so malware cannot detect and close it.
    Compatible with every antivirus.

    Cons

It's a pain to download a completely different executable to get updated definitions; Dr Web should have integrated an updater into the software.

    Summary

I like this software. It's free, very quick, easy to use, and detects everything! I recommend this!

"the only antivirus that removed a trojan"

    March 22, 2013   |   By maribee

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 6.0

    Pros

follow installation instruction on their website: https://www.drwebhk.com/en/virus_techinfo/Trojan.Siggen2.42488.html#
Following instruction, works well. Make sure to uninstall other virus software like Avast, AVG, Malwarebytes, etc before installing. Downloaded and run DrWeb CureIt! in a safe mode after uninstalling other virus protection on PC. Install Dr.Web Security Space pro. (demo free for 1 month)after trojan was removed.

    Cons

Use Pro version demo, it worked

    Summary

I had Avast, Malwarebytes Pro and others on my PC. Got a trojan.siggen2.42288 (misleading.winAvm; shazhu.wav). Chrome wouldn't work. The only antivirus Eusing utility detected the virus but couldn't remove. On internet, after searching for solution I found Dr.Web, followed instructions and in safe-mode removed 3 infected files.

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 6.0

    Pros

its amazing...no matter what other anti-malware i run, DR Web always finds something they did not.

    Cons

it is long and slow, that is true. but who needs or wants a qucik and hasty check up? let DW do its thing, yes, you can stand to be offline for a few hours. let it check everything.

    Summary

this free software has saved me several times. there is no substitute. this is the one true killer.

"Downloads, but won't open, and run."

    June 21, 2012   |   By nosmiley

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 6.0

    Pros

A year or two ago this worked great.

    Cons

Today , the free version downloads, but when I try to open and run it, it states my license has expired. I have never had one. This is, and has always been my home computer at home. I tried several methods, and can't get it to open, and run. While downloading, it states it will direct me to Facebook, blah, blah. I don't belong to facebook, and never will knowingly.
CNET should state that Facebook is a requirement for this program.
( Off hand, who put Zuckerberg in charge of the internet?? )

    Summary

At one time, this was a great program. Perhaps, I'm missing something. The last time it was free-- period. No trial, no Facebook membership, just download the program and run it. Today ,I can't get it to run. The beginning page seems to be purposely confusing.
CNET used to be better about screening .

    "OMG! Loved Dr. Web's Cure-It!"

    January 04, 2012   |   By SputnikBites

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 6.0

    Pros

Very thorough. Caught several viruses missed by both Kaspersky and MalwareBytes. I search out any good stand-alone anti-malware software since it doesn't cause conflicts, doesn't slow your system, and makes a great back-up.

    Cons

None really. The full scan takes awhile, but it's very thorough so I don't get my knickers in a kink, especially since it's free!

    Summary

I now run Kaspersky, then Malwarebytes, then Dr. Web's Cure-It and feel very protected. For those that whine about being directed to their website, having to give their name and email address, it's a small price for software that does a thorough and excellent job. For those of you who get blue-screened or their computer gets worse--Gee, maybe they have a serious infection they should have dealt with long back or have a hardware issue. For those who can't figure out how to download it, read at least a bit of the website. It's not difficult at all.

"This download doesn't work, must go to their site."

    October 13, 2011   |   By Shocktribe

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 6.0

    Pros

After jumping through hoops, I suppose you may finally get to try it.

    Cons

This download doesn't work, but redirects you to a website.

    Summary

When opening this downloaded program, it merely tells you it's for private use only and opens a browser window to their website. You must then enter your email and full name to get an additional link to a free download. This is a Russian site, hence their support forum is in Russian. Never heard of them, and I didn't trust this strange setup, so I aborted the process.

    "No frills perfection"

    August 04, 2011   |   By sbdugdale

    Version: Dr.Web CureIt 6.0

    Pros

Peace of mind in the thoroughness of the scanning
    Extremely easy to use
The interface and actions displayed are not cloaked in IT jargon
    It's free and it works

    Cons

You need to be patient as complete scan takes many hours

    Summary

For a free product this is an exceptionally thorough, easy to use and re-assuring piece of software. It has rooted out an infection that AVG blantantly missed. Whilst it's shocking that popularly acclaimed AV software can fail to detect very widely dispersed trojans I am in awe that something as unpretentious and seemingly 'cheap' looking as CureIt! can detect and eradicate without me needing university level skills at IT. Some may moan that their PC is locked up during scans and that the process takes too long but they should consider the flip side of this -is what they are used to from an anti-virus product simply taking short cuts and would they rather have a clean machine or one that they are told is clear of nasties but is secretly grabbing their passwords and bandwiith. Well done to the team who made this product.
