    "Not great"

    April 18, 2010   |   By kalsta

    Version: Diet Sleuth 5.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

    Positives

    • Energy and nutrition information displayed in main window for each food when selected.

    Negatives

    • Setting up a new file takes a long time (over a minute?)
    • The food/nutrient database seems to be US-biased. (Not a negative if you live in US I guess.)
    • Interface for finding and choosing foods is quite awkward â?? if you don't remember to specify a number of serves it defaults to zero.
    • Search field for finding foods is in a separate window and requires you to select the chosen food twice (once in the search window and again in the main window).
    • Buggy. All my entries for the day would sometimes completely disappear. The technique I discovered for bringing them back is to add another food to the day's intake â?? not exactly an encouragement to eat less!
    • Mostly I couldn't get the graphs to work at all â?? just an empty window.

    Conclusion

Although version 5 software, this feels more like beta software. (Note: I wrote this review before version 6 which I haven't tested.)

    "No Exercise Credit"

    January 07, 2004   |   By DTDunn

    Version: Diet Sleuth 4.1.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
To be fair to this company, I tried their software one more time (I had made a negative comment below). The same main problem exists with this software: who counts calories without taking exercise into account? If I am on a 1500 calorie diet and I eat 3000 calories without exercising, that is a bad day. If I eat 3000 and run 15 miles, that is a good day. This software makes no distinction and that is a major flaw.

    "Great Start but not great."

    September 07, 2003   |   By Siskel & Ebert

    Version: Diet Sleuth OSX 4.1.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

#1 sure takes a long time to initiate the first time. Can't there be any compression, it's all text. 4 MB text files?

#2 Good looking interface but it's clunky... Can't use arrow keys to scroll through the items. The food specs won't change that way, only if you click on each item. Some items don't have any specs at all.

#3 Pretty extensive list of food.
