This freeware tool greatly simplifies creating or editing DOSBOX configuration files. DOSBOX Win Launcher SE's multitabbed dialog interface is a lesson in bare bones design. Each tab simply displays required settings using pull-down menus. Any user familiar with DOSBOX will understand the settings. That's very important as the very short item descriptions are aimed at experienced users, and the online Help file was missing during our tests.
Creating configuration files is a snap with DOSBOX Win Launcher SE. The 16 tabs are logically arranged and easily selected along the top of the utility. However, the dialog is too small to show all 16 at once and the program offers no method to enlarge the interface. That small problem aside, selecting and changing configuration items is very easy. For almost every item all possible options are listed in the pull-downs. Where that isn't possible, it is easy to type the data in the space provided. Saving a configuration is quick with a hot key combination, toolbar pull-down, or menu selection. However, it isn't possible to create an auto-save time.
DOSBOX Win Launcher SE is fast and has a small memory footprint. Anyone using DOSBOX will appreciate the simplicity of creating and editing configurations with this freeware utility.
This is the second edition of DWL. Istead of just letting you select a pre-made config file, it'll let you edit config files directly, within a powerful - but easy-to-use tabbed windows environment. All settings of the DOSBOX v. 0.63 config files can be edited - even the AUTOEXEC part. One convenient part of this is that you can create different config files for different programs. Just set the required settings for the program, and make it auto-start with the Autoexec part. Then you can just open DWL, select the config file for the program in question, and click Run DOSBOX. Version 0.5.2332.35117 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
