"Very useful tool."

September 21, 2012  |  By AxelAlix

 |  Version: DBSync For MS SQL And MySQL 4.2.2

Pros

Many informative prompts
A lot of settings for configuration
Useful scheduling option
Fast synchronization

Cons

Works on Windows OS only

Summary

I tested this tool and recently bought it also. I wanted all tables to be imported, including indexes, foreign keys. I needed everything to be replicated between SQL-server and MySQL, and also wanted to have all done automatically.
I once created a session, configured it, and now everything works automatically by scheduler. I haven't any problem with synchronization. I'm very happy with this tool. It's very simple and useful. A big thanks to the developers !

"Not tool for serious use"

August 12, 2012  |  By MrVirtualCIO

 |  Version: DBSync For MS SQL And MySQL 4.1.5

Pros

Inexpensive

Cons

Errors
Crashes
Refuses to recognize primary key on source DB
Incredibly slow peformance (probably due to the above)
Slow response to support issues
No support forum (a dead giveaway that there are serious issues)

Summary

We purchased the product to try and save having to write custom scripts for data migrations from MSSQL to MYSQL. After some back and forth with their support (turn-around times weren't great) we gave up and just wrote our own scripts. The product has a great set of features but they just don't work so there was no time savings at all. During conversion exercises it would generate a ton of errors that made no sense and then would wrap-up with a syntax error in the product code. No matter what we tried it would not recognize primary keys. It's not a huge loss for us as the product was cheap and we thougght we'd give it a try, We'll justr chalk it up to R&D. Luckily we have the skills in-house to do this ourselves but it you don't and need a serious dbconversion tool, steer clear of this, spend a little more money and get a higher quality product.

"Product bad (way too slow). Customer service bad."

May 28, 2009  |  By shawnmullen

 |  Version: DBSync For MS SQL And MySQL 2.1

Pros

Works fairly well for small amounts of data.

Cons

Way too slow for large amounts of data. I had a database with approx. 20 tables with about 2,000,000 rows total. With this product 9 hours later it was not half way complete. With another product, complete in 1 hour.

Summary

The reason I dislike this product is primarily what I stated in the "con" section. However, the customer service was so bad I must comment on that as well. When I received the product there was a bug in the scheduling feature. After roughly two weeks, the company finally got back with me on a "fix," at least that is what they said. I installed the "fix" but nothing was different (not even the version number of the app). The company told me they did not adjust the version number but the scheduling issue was fixed. I was not able to see any difference between the "fix" and the original. The scheduling feature did not work.

On the company web site, they say you can get a refund if you are not satisfied. When I asked for a refund, they sent me a "refund form." They told me I had to snail mail the refund form to them. They would not accept the form as an attachment to an email. I never did find out why. The address I needed to send the refund form to was to a country I never heard of.

Stay way away from this software.
