Sick of looking at that same old cursor? Us too. Click any of the animated 3D pointers on CursorFX to view the change before you even close the app. CursorFX starts you off with a handful of well-designed cursors, from the prim, sleek arrow replacement to a lightsaber look-alike or a grinding gear. More freebies await in Stardock's online user gallery.
These basic cursor-changing functions are free to use, but those seeking more performative tricks can upgrade to the Plus version. $19.95 unlocks features that have your cursor dot the screen with color each time you click or leaving trails of bubbles in its wake.
Anyone can tweak the custom cursor's look and feel and can easily revert to the standard model if you need a reminder of what you've left behind. CursorFX integrates into the Mouse panel, takes only about 1MB of RAM, and does not slow the cursor's movement. This free application is a must-have for upgrading Vista or XP's look.
Publisher's description

Once installed, users can choose between hundreds of different mouse cursors with fluid animations, smooth edges, unique sizes, and more system event behaviors. In addition, CursorFX supports features such as smooth motion which the default Windows mouse cursor does not.

Version: CursorFX 2.05
"Excellent free app"
Pros: Fair choices, considering it's free. A great upgrade from the normal boring cursors.
Cons: No cons at all.
Summary: This is a fun program that installs easily and allows interesting cursor effects. I've used and enjoyed all versions of CursorFX for years with no problems.

Version: CursorFX 2.05
"Good but unnecessary"
Pros: It can make your mouse look better.
Cons: It doesn't actually serve any purpose other than looks. Its a little pointless.
Summary: Its a neat program if you want to make your mouse look different. However it has a limited number of options to chose from, and overall I find it a little pointless.

"You get what you get, but want more."
Pros: Good choices for bringing some flair to your mouse pointer.
Cons: Without the paid upgrade, you do not get so much.
Summary: This product is overall good, but I would recommend the paid upgrade. So much more cool features can be done with it versus the free version.

"Mouse-Over Info Boxes Blocked by Cursors [Win 7]"
Pros: A couple of interesting pointer options.
Cons: Cursors block mouse-over boxes--a major bug!
Bait and switch, teaser presentation. Most options not avail. in freeware edition.
Questionable use of resources.Summary: I never fully appreciated how much engineering goes into designing cursors until I tried the alternatives presented here, Choices range from far to big to too small. All are not designed to work well with a simple--but important--thing like mouse-over boxes. Box's upper left corner lies under the point of every pointer here, which block the beginning text in them. Windows cursors do not block these boxes at all. All in all CursorFX is poorly thought-out and implemented. Wait for something better--and honestly meant to be freeware.

"Finicky Software"
Pros: I used it for 10 minutes then uninstall ed it
Cons: memory hog on HP mini with only 1GB RAM locked up the system
Summary: I have not installed it on Vista or 7 because it was unreliable on XP

"I wish it had worked"
Pros: Most interesting icons
Cons: Would not function when installed
Summary: Using PC with XP 64. Was able to get only one cursor to work, Ubuntu Wouldn't allow changes to others. Caused desktop to flash on and off and other programs to open multiple copies so fast I couldn't close them fast enough. In order to stop them had to shut down computer and reboot.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling another copy with similar results, plus exactly the same cursor choice appeared in the downloaded cursors and Ubuntu cursor immediately appeared without even choosing it.
Weird stuff. I wish it had worked for me because its cursors are the coolest. Makes me avoid purchasing it -
