Manage books, music, movie & comic books in your collection.
Booxter is an application to help you manage your collections of books, music, movies, and comic books. Booxter gathers book information from various sources on the internet to allow you to view, edit, sort, categorize, export, and print books of interest to you. With Booxter you can: add items one at a time or in batches. Create standard item lists. Create smart lists. Browse items using various filters. Fetch item information online. Scan barcodes of books, music and movies to load in using a barcode scanner or an iSight webcam. Export item information to text files. Export item information to an iPod Classic. Export item information in HTML customized for an iPhone or iPod Touch. Print item information.
The combination of the program with the iPhone as a scanner of the ISBN-barcode is fabulous, it was the reason why I bought the program. Just pointing the iPhone to the barcode, the iPhone communicates with my Mac and puts the number into a "lookup" list. When done scanning, I had the program search some databases on the internet (the Dutch Royal Library and Bol.com the Netherlands. (as I live there) Within seconds, the basic information on the book is put into the program, with a picture of the cover in 85% of the cases also.
Then I wanted to sync the program with my iPhone. This is were we first go to the cons and get back later to the pro's.
If you just read the cons; good, here you are again. From here on everything works more than fine! An ideal sync with my iPhone, quick search, the right information. It is the program I have been looking for the last 10 years. It even is very simple to use the iPhone or HTML-export to put it somewhere into your website. (with ftp to the net)
Cons
I have been trying for more than 4 hours to get the program syncing with my iPhone. Due to the lack of specific documentation, this wouldn't work at first. After reconnecting my iPhone with my Mac, using bluetooth it still did not work. I thought, hmm... well maybe we need to reset the iPhone. (I don't do this very often and can imagine nobody does this often) and yes, there it was, the long expected library under the share-button.
Also the way to put in a picture of the book-cover wasn't that clear. Couldn't find anything in the documentation. (again) The solution here was much more simple, just drag and drop the picture from my desktop to the book in 1-item-mode.
Summary
A great program, It delivered everything the info promised. However, it was really hard to get some of the features working, as the documentation is frankly said, very poor.
Where the developer just needs to find a little more time to get the documentation in order. This would instantly remove the "bad" reviews on the internet and would add a lot of useability to an otherwise great program! Keep up the good work!
Good Mac app but let down by iPhone syncing
phiweb
Pros
I have found the Mac app generally good, it is fairly easy to use and looks good.
Cons
However, I bought it mainly so that I could get my book lists onto an iPhone. The iPhone app is promising but the syncing does not really work. Deeprose have not responded to my enquiries nor apparently to others.
Summary
Until the syncing problems are resolved then I feel that in large part I have wasted my money. If the Syncing worked I would rate the program as 4 stars but one of its major selling points currently does not seem to work.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />For scanning in books this is the best product by far because of the wide range of sources it queries.
For CDs/DVD.... not good for New Zealand as it does not query any Zone 4 sources. So I will have to enter all the data manually (for about 500 DVDs)
As for connection to the iPhone....total fail. Booxter on my iphone sees the Mac but not any of the libraries, informed the developer of this and have had zero response.
I have now resorted to using Delicious library, I export the info I want on my iPhone and import it to Delicious library and Delicious Library DOES work well with my iPhone.
I have now deleted the booxter App from my iPhone
Great product. I does what it promises.

I highly recommend this software. The cost is reasonable. The interface is intuitive and the company does regular updates.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I have used Booxter from the earliest version and still find it a joy to use.
Being able to give iSight a mere sniff of the ISBN barcode and seeing it scurry off to get the book details makes a game out of entering a long list of books. I am impressed by how forgiving the recognition software is when reading the bar code under poor light and when a book is held in less than steady hands.

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />One year ago, I tried various book catalog software, including Delicious Library, and ended on Booxter. One of the main reason, as a Norwegian citizen, was the many non-US sources Booxter search through, including two Norwegian ones. I hope even more sources are added in the future, especially an African one like e.g. the National Library of South Africa.
Otherwise I find Booxter a very straight-to-the-bone app that does cataloging and just that. It's not an app you fall in love with at first sight, but an app you like better the more books you add. As my library grows, I really appreciate the many good browsing options Booxter includes, like the tag view where you can browse the books by genre, publisher, year, Dewey class, subject, etc. Many fields are available, but some are missing like e.g. "Original title". But then there is of course a notes-field to enter misc info. The smart list feature is also really useful.
One quite serious issue is the documentation, which is almost non-existent. This is not acceptable for an $50 app. There are so many features in Booxter, some of which are quite hidden, so good documentation would be really useful for new users. Also, I've not received replies to my two emails to the developer.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This is a very good software to manage your library. I have 1500 books which are treated with ease by this software.
Ok, older books without ISBN or LCCN you must type in manually, but for me it's ok, you have to do it only once...
The price for this software is very good - it is worth the money.
For the future I whish a possibility to use Booxter also as source for quotations, maybe as a system service.
Developer not responding, only can deal with books...

...that have ISBN<br />This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I really like this product, but over the course of four months Iâ??ve written the developer twice without having received any answer so far. My request is simple: Booxter should be able to deal with books by title. Not all books have ISBNs that are listed at Amazon and the like, especially older ones. Bookpedia is much better there, as is their support. Getting no response from developers does not bode well for registering this product. I fear itâ??s dead in the water.
