CNET Editors' review
Bookmark Buddy Unicode lets users organize their bookmarks. Although the program is chock-full of features, its unintuitive interface and overwhelming Help file made us feel more frustrated than organized.
The program displays users' bookmarks by category and subcategory. For example, the News and Analysis category has subcategories, for international news, magazines, and computer news. All of these can be customized, allowing users to create categories and subcategories that are meaningful for them. Users can then export their bookmarks to their browser, although this function seemed aimed primarily at Internet Explorer users and wasn't clear about how Firefox users should complete the task. The program also has a feature that allows users to auto-complete log-in forms on Web sites, which is handy. All of this is fairly simple to use, but going beyond those basics is a recipe for a headache. The built-in Help file is huge and poorly organized, and while we rarely fault programs for having too many features, it may be true in this case. We suppose that a user who has a tremendous number of bookmarks and is somewhat anal-retentive about organizing them would enjoy this program, but the average user will likely find Bookmark Buddy is more trouble than it's worth.
Bookmark Buddy Unicode has a 30-day trial period. It comes as a ZIP file, and although it installs politely, it leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this program with reservations; there's nothing functionally wrong with it, but we believe most users will find it frustrating and unhelpful.
