Pros
Simple, streamlined, attractive. I love being able to ask it to appear automatically every day.
Cons
Don't always know the year of birth, and this app requires I type SOMEthing in. It also doesn't automatically put the names in order of birthdate, making it cumbersome to locate a name if I need to edit.

yes, new version is best yet, but there is stll a ways to go.
Well, for freeware, it really is quite excellent and so my criticism is more encouragement than complaint.
One deal breaker for me is that BirthdayBook isn't able to re-import dates from Address Book after initial setup. After that, if you have since added birthdays to Address Book then you still have to manually add those dates to BirthdayBook. To me, a pretty basic function, but a fairly obvious omission.
I would hope to see closer integration with Address Book and iCal in the future - use of Address Book database as primary database, export to iCal, and the ability for it to automatically generate alerts without the app having to be open.
I recommend it for basic use, especially as it is freeware, but a 5-star app it is not.
I'll keep watching. -

This is a fantastic program. For 40-some years I have relied on my Mom to tell me when it is various relatives birthdays. Those days are over. Birthdaybook gives your Mom a break. It is simple to setup. Easy to use. This is a fantastic application written by a talented and responsive gentleman. When I ofund a few things that required attention it was dealt with promptly and politely. This is a piece of software I am happy to pay for. -

I've been using this little gem of a tool for a couple of years and wouldn't want to be without it. I admit that I do keep all birthdata on iCal to begin with, but this little tool keeps me aware of all my birthdates, anniversaries, etc. perfectly! It's the best little tool I've found! -

Program works beautifully and delivers all that is promised. caveat: when importing to ical only word "birthday" is displayed, (have to type in event to display name permanently),If typed over all is wiped out when importing updated list. Would be nice if birthday name appeared in ical calendar. Other than the ical comment the program is very useful to me and is in my dock for daily use. -

I know this sounds crazy but for years I have transferred my birthday book from spreadsheets to DBs, from Mac addressbook into Windows Outlook at work. This little app has almost everything I need (and it even let's me send a birthday email all at the same tiime). I have 2 suggestions. One is that I also store anniversaries in my addressbook (in date form naturally) and it would be great if I had the option to import these (or not) as well as other 'custom' dates I put in the anniversary area of date book. Second, I keep my mac running almost constantly so I have to physically start the the Birthdaybook each time I want to check dates and this defeats the 'reminder' feature 'for me'. An option to have it run when the computer wakes from sleep and/or an option for it to self boot at a specified time would be great. In anycase I am going to use this as is for now cause it is the closest thing to what I need.
