This unusually named audio player falls short of many competitors due to a poor design, limited functionality, and a lack of even the most standard features. The interface is basically a blank box for your playlist, with several menu items above it. You won't find any buttons or icons for playing, pausing, or stopping files, forcing you to access these functions through the menu or hot keys. Also, unlike most other audio players, Billy lacks the ability to fast-forward, rewind, edit ID3 tags, and play CDs. On the plus side, this audio player doesn't introduce gaps between songs and lets you add a playlist link to your favorites. Perhaps the best aspect of Billy, however, is that it's completely free--but in the long run, even that can't save this minimalist audio player from obscurity.

No Frills or Bloat

Extremely limited resource usage. Does everything I need.

Does not cook or clean.
Summary
I have always and will continue to use Billy. I like to do resource intensive things on my computer. Which isn't the best by any standard. But Billy doesn't even affect my cpu or memory usage.

I have used Billy for many years...i recently renewed my computer and have just re installed Billy...i was lost without it. I have downloaded so many audio players and have deleted them...Billy is the best for me.

If your looking for a player to run in the background that takes up almost no resources then you need this. It's easy to control and you can do so without having to leave whatever page or document your on.

Great sound quality and very fast to react to the touch of whatever you want it to do. Theres no catches between songs LOVE THAT, great player...

I just wanted a simple player, and after downloading 3 or 4 others this worked great. I pointed Billy to my music folder, and picked "shuffle play". It keeps going and going and going.

Pros
Small app that does exactly what it says it will do, play directory of files. This is all I need -- just point it to my music directory and let it do the rest for hours of nice background music while I surf. Even though cnet's review gives it bad marks for the interface, there are keyboard shortcuts for Play, Rewind, etc, so it's not really that big a deal. I like it!
