BZFlag is a free open source online multiplayer 3D tank battle game. It is a tenured game with over 10 years longevity with an active development and player community. Tanks can carry a variety of flags that provide weapons and give your tank special abilities, such as guided missles, laser, steath, speed, etc. There are a variety of game types, including Capture the Flag, Bunny Hunt, and Free for All, with a large collection of user-generated world maps to play on.
For the players familiar with the classic battlezone game style that BZFlag has evolved from, you'll be happy to find the old style still in-tact and actively played. There are players online from around the world all the time.
What's new in this version: Version 2.4 was created to address issues that could only be resolved in an incompatible release as well as to restart a stalled development team.

"Fun, but unusual controls."

Pros
This is an interesting multi-player tank game, with a wide variety of power-ups, that is not very violent.
Cons
The controls are interesting, such as the need to move your mouse around the screen to steer your tank, there are some players who enjoy using explicit name-tags.
Summary
A fun and addictive tank game that can be enjoyable for all ages, but the controls definitely need some getting used to.

Works fine on a G4 1.4ghz Dual, and a Powerbook G4 -- and displays just fine on a 23" HD Cinema Display at maximum resolution. Too many computer illiterates out there blaming their own screw-ups on software developers. This program is great. If you haven't tried the game, check it out, it's challenging, and it's a lot of fun.
