Ashampoo UnInstaller 4

Publisher's Description

From Ashampoo:

Windows is famous for getting more sluggish the more you use it. One reason for this is that many programs leave your computer full of digital garbage when you remove them. Every time you try out a new program and then uninstall it your system gets more and more clogged up with redundant program components that just get in the way and slow things down. Ashampoo Uninstaller 4 completely eliminates this problem. It lets you test software with confidence because you can be sure that no trace of programs you remove are left anywhere on your system. It does this by comparing compact "Before" and "After" snapshots that identify exactly where all program components and settings are located. Uninstalling is completely safe, with automatic backups and a special Reinstaller for quickly reinstalling programs with all their settings. In addition to uninstalling, you can also use UnInstaller's comprehensive "Before and After" comparisons to monitor and identify the secret activities of any program - for example hidden files and Registry keys. Just take a snapshot, run the application that you want to monitor and then take another snapshot. UnInstaller then compares the snapshots and shows you all the changes the program has made anywhere on your system. Contents of the UnInstaller toolbox: Automatic and manual monitoring of program installation; Monitor secret program activities; Remove all traces of programs from your system; Interactive tool for removing programs for which you don't have Ashampoo UnInstaller installation logs; Reinstaller - reinstall programs with all your settings; Drag & Drop uninstaller; Advanced hard disk defragmenter with automatic defragmentation; Windows Registry cleanup tool; Internet cleanup tool, delete all surfing traces; Undelete tool, restore accidentally deleted files; File wiper for secure deletion of files; Find/delete duplicate files tool; Find/delete temporary files tool; Find/delete empty folders tool; Start Menu cleanup tool; Manage Windows services tool; Manage Internet Explorer extensions tool; File and folder backup and restore utility; Font management tool, delete unnecessary fonts.

What's new in this version: Version 4.0.20 added improved defragmentation algorithm and an improved installation wizard.

"I always come back to Ashampoo"

    June 5, 2011  |   By 127markaz

    Version: Ashampoo UnInstaller 4 4.0.15

    Pros

    1. Extremely thorough uninstaller
    2. Install monitor running is SysTray catches anything trying to install (Even if you are not trying to)
    3. Like the option to save current config then install without the Wizard.
    4. Just a damn fine program.

    Cons

    1. Comparing to other products takes longer to take snapshot of current config.

    Summary

If you have absolutely no self-control and cannot wait an additional 10 second for the current configuration to load, don't buy Ashampoo 4, If you need or want to get rid of everything file and registry entry from a program you no longer want, this is the product for you. If you also like real live human beings answering question in tech support, Ashampoo is the right company to deal with.
Go ahead and try Revo, IOBit and all the other uninstallers first and see what is left behind. Then try Ashampoo Uninstaller 4. You should be happy with the comparison and settle with Ashampoo.

"Very good uninstaller if you use it when installing"

    May 9, 2011  |   By iberg

    Version: Ashampoo UnInstaller 4 4.0.15

    Pros

    - Tracks all changes made while installing software
    - Can create a reinstall executable when uninstalling software
    - The software offers other utilities
    - Can show all changes in a nice report.

    Cons

    - lengthens the install process by quite a bit if you have a large amount of storage space since it must take a snapshot of everything before and after install.

    Summary

Worthwhile software that can get you out of a jam if something you install makes changes you did not expect.

"Excellent product, would be lost without it now."

    Version: Ashampoo UnInstaller 4 4.0.12

    Pros

Install progs and try them out knowing that if you hit any bugs or other issues, you can can do a clean and effortless UN-install. Even on progs that try to "embed" themsevles into your system. Impressive. You can disable the auto "UIWatcher".

    Cons

Don't really like the auto "Installation Monitor", it allerts Ashampoo when you start installing something, causing it to jump in. I prefer to start Ashampoo myself to begin any new install, more reliable routine in my view. Just try it and see.

    Summary

MAIN FEATURE - Traces program installations - Does clean un-installations using the trace log. (See how below.) Applying for the 30 day trial key is quick and easy, but don't do it too early or it chops the first 10 days short, so run that out first to get the full 40 days. And don't be in too big a hurry to buy this, Ashampoo sent me lots of discount email offers, even before the trial was over. QuickStart guide: Ashampoo installs with the Installation Monitor enabled. This is fine, all you have to do is start installing your new program and Ashampoo will jump in asking whether or not you want it monitored. It's pretty straight forward, but personally I prefer to start Ashampoo's main window myself and install the new prog from there, less auto, more control, you'll prolly see why later. To do this just click "Installation Assistant", then click "Save Configuration", then wait for the next pop-up to start your install. Ashampoo minimises to the taskbar while you're installing the new prog. When you've finished installing and run the new prog, close it, then bring up Ashampoo and create the new Log. Also doing it this way you get to see the list of previous logs when naming the new one. Either way is good. NOTE; if you install a prog that wants to re-boot your comp to finish, click "NO, re-boot later," otherwise you won't get a chance to create your new log file. To disable the Installation Monitor, just right click it in system tray and hit exit. To make sure, see Settings in the File menu. Cheers.

    "Great product"

    May 16, 2010  |   By bgs999

    Version: Ashampoo UnInstaller 4 4.04

    Pros

Good for getting rid of programs, like trial programs you no longer want
    Good disk defragmenter with it

    Cons

Taking XP laptop out of hibernation got screwed up if I turned on the boottime defrag of system files.
Uninstaller monitor can get a bit confused by software that runs an uninstaller to remove previous version before installing new version.

    Summary

The uninstaller works excellently. I had a situation where I was trying to use a trial piece of software that was time limited. I could remove the software after use but if I reinstalled it or a later version after the initial expiry time limit it still knew about it and would not run the trial again. I even tried other software that attempted to map disk and registry changes during the install to try to find how they were doing it so I could change it, but to no avial. With ashampoo uninstaller I was able to install the trial software, do the required reboot to get its kernel drivers in, run up the software and close it - then finalize the installation with ashampoo. Later when I chose ashampoo to uninstall the software it completely removed it, even the date/time stamping that was applied somewhere, so I was free to re-install trial software again at later time.

I had an issue with the unistaller when the software being installed was a later version of existing software - this called its own uninstaller program during the installation. When this uninstaller popped up ashampoo wanted to write out the changes to the install at this point, and possibly popped up another window to monitor the install again. I got confused at this point and ended up with uninstall points that didn't quite work as I expected. In retrospect, I should have turned off the installation monitor and used ashampoo uninstaller manually where I could have chosen when to write the log file out.

A laptop I have this on (windows xp sp3) I chose 'Boottime Defrag' which allows defragmenting of "important system files during the startup window". However, I hibernate this machine a lot instead of shutting it down. Whenever I would startup again after hibernating it would just go ta-ta's after a while, never got to the gui screen mode. So I just turned that feature off and it's now good.
