The Full Edition lets you add Stencils and Rulers to your canvas that make masking and precise line construction as easy as it is on a real canvas. The ArtRage 2.5 Starter Edition is free and lets you create, save, and print your artwork with many of the tools in the Full Edition.

This is a great program. For 59 Dollars at the moment you get a complete toolkit for painting. For this money you could not even buy the basic colors and pens you need for real painting, not to mention brushes and canvas. This program is the one that simulates real painting the best of all programs I know. Of course it doesn`t have all features of Corel painter, but that makes it easy to use on the other hand, and you get results very fast. After a few minutes trying around you are already able to start painting almost like in real life.The metallic paint function is great. This is a pure PAINTING program, not a picture manipulation program like Photoshop. But combined with the free GIMP you have a complete painting and picture manipulation kit for under 60 dollars. You probably will not even be able to use all the possibilities you have with these two programs.
I mentioned before artrage could be a little bit slow on netbooks. That was because of a bad software configuration on my netbook. After I disabled the automatic translation program "lingoes" which was running in the background (causing no problems with other programs), artrage was no more slow at all. Now it is the fastest painting program I know, and it runs fast on an acer netbook with 1 GB memory.
