• AppleWorks 6 - A must for pre Mac OS X.Lion

  Pros

  Word processing, Spread sheet, Database, Paint, Draw, & Presentations. All are integrated to work with each other. Very fast. Low overhead. Works on all Mac OS X up to and including Show Leopard.

  Cons

  AppleWorks will not work on Mac OS X Lion. No conversion process to port databases to another program.

  Summary

  I have used this software for YEARS. I still find many of the features in AW6 easer to use then in other programs. Word processing, Spreadsheets, Database, Paint, & Draw are all simple to use and straight forward.

  includes Painting and Drawing which newer Apple offerings (iLife and iWorks) don't

  fairly basic spread sheets, presentation software, data bases, but it's all there

  Summary

  it's got it all at a low price - word processing, data base, spread sheet, presentation software, drawing and painting - even if some of the apps are fairly basic. Very well integrated as well. Loved it when it was new. Wish they still had it for newer Macs. Apple retired it in 2007. If you have an older Mac you may find it highly usable.

  I have used it for so long and hesitate to be required to learn new apps. It does all that I need to do. My templates are there etc.

  The program will occasionally quit for reasons I don't know, but can be restarted readily,

  Pros

  ease of use, comes with extensive templates, they way you can have a spreadsheet drawing and other integrated software within a wordprocessing document.

  Cons

  recently i have found an increase in appleworks files becoming corrupted, especially when they transferred between computers.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />It's not bad...however, it seems a little behind on interface, and it would be very helpful if it was rewritten..now I don't want to put a burden on Apple and all, with their music service and so on in mind..but this program does need a little touch of paint to look good and work like an OS X native application. Besides that, it works well. Maybe multiple selections should be supported. I've already seen it in Nisus Writer Express and Microsoft Word - let's spread it.

It eliminates the last four letters or so, regardless of what the margins are set to. <p>Claris Works used to be a fabulours program, but it has stagnated as Appleworks. <p>My feature request: <ul> <li>Scroll Wheel Support</li> <li>Better MS Office import/export (it's glitchy)</li> <li>Beef up the drawing component. Transparency (even basic transparency) and rotateable text (without bitmapped effect) would be nice</li> <li>More speed, captain!</li> <li>Fix misc glitches. Aside from the right-side printing problem, I have had trouble printing anything under "best" quality ever since AppleWorks went to OS X. It would consitently screw up the last line on the page.</li> <li>Better control over fotters and page numbering, so I could for example number all pages except the first four</li> </ul> <p>C'mon, Apple, we know you can put out quality software!

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />AppleWorks 6 has been a disaster from the start. It's the only program that I have that's more sluggish than Word X. Simple actions like copying and moving text cause a spinning beachball on a G4 500. A true embarrasment for Apple.
