An all-new Apple iTunes? No need to tempt us: We'll bite! The look is pure Apple, but the new iTunes 11 is also lighter, sleeker, and faster than the old app. It also comes with many new features and refinements, such as improved iCloud integration that lets you play your iTunes purchases right away on all your devices or pause play on one device and pick it right up on another. New Library Views clean up media collection clutter. Expanded views display album notes in place so you don't have to click back and forth. The new MiniPlayer is elegant. Best of all, iTunes is still free, even for Windows.

The redesigned iTunes layout stresses simplicity. It's classic Cupertino; crisp, clean, and timeless. A simple media player/search panel sits above a toolbar offering ultraquick access to everything you need: Library, Songs, Albums, Artists, Genres, Playlists, Radio, Match, and iTunes Store. If you're upgrading iTunes, you can go straight from the installer to the iTunes store. Since our setup was new, we pressed Scan for Music. The app quickly displayed all our tunes in the Music Library View, sorted by Song, Album, Genre, and so on. As before, playback quality is top-notch.

Current iTunes users have probably already upgraded to iTunes 11. But those of you out there who either haven't used iTunes before or gave up on previous versions, try the all-new Apple iTunes 11. It addresses many of the issues that drove users toward media players with smaller footprints. It's lighter and faster than any iTunes you've seen before, yet it does more than ever. Some familiar yet missing features (like the sidebar) are still available as options, too; only now you have a choice. We didn't try the Match service, but it seems like cheap insurance for large libraries, and it includes instant access anywhere with all your devices. If you're looking for a single app to handle your music and media libraries, your digital downloads, and your devices, we suggest taking a bite of the all-new Apple iTunes.

    "Please no hiding controls"

    April 6, 2013  |   By blademanunitpi

    Version: Apple iTunes 11.0.2

    Pros

    Seems to work just fine

    Cons

The controls in the mini version of the music player is very annoying. every so often I will try and stop or play music and the controls fail to pop up. I just move and hover back and they pop up but I foresee it not coming up again. I don't hide my dock for that same reason

    "Terrible "update""

    April 4, 2013  |   By kaplanbren

    Version: Apple iTunes 11.0.2

    Pros

    It plays music.

    Cons

Terrible "update" sacrifices user experience on the alter of directing music consumers to download from appStore and iTunes Music Store.

Interface is confusing and clunky... Apple even went so far as to remove the ability to simply view one's Library and its corresponding file structure and hierarchy.

I am spending my two hours of free time this evening downgrading... yeah, because Apple won't let you downgrade.

    Summary

Apple used to be about making user experience flow along the lines of "it just works". Unfortunately, now it flows along the lines of "it will just work the way we want it to."

In the 80's, 90's and early 2000's they did a lot of elegant work dealing with the accessibility of file structure and system parameters that allowed for a truly sublime workflow. Alas, now they have lost their way and sacrifice their wonderful UI to the cloud wars between themselves, facebook, and google.

Too bad, they could have won by choosing not to participate but building in superior support for competitors services. They are shooting themselves in the foot by trying to take so much control. You can see it in the way their iOS 6 works, how Mac OS Lion functions, and the way that this new terrible iTunes behaves.

I'm going to go buy some late 2011 Apple products with Snow Leopard, and iPhone 4s hacked to run iOS 4, and iTunes 10.7 and try to live in personal computing's apex as long as possible. Eventually, we will all be dragged kicking and screaming into a world of reduced expectations in computing as computers move from being devices used to create content to one used to consume it.

    "Causes Device Error #19"

    March 24, 2013  |   By LakeHYS

    Version: Apple iTunes 11.0.2

    Pros

Allows users to easily download and use content (Primarily music).

    Cons

Can cause Device Error #19 which will prevent you from using your disc drive. In addition, sign-up is a hassle and uninstalling the program is more of a challenge than it should be.

    Summary

I was not a fan of Apple to begin with, but I honestly expected a lot more from this program.

In order to download something, I had to register an account. When I signed up, I was REQUIRED to enter in my billing information. I could not find an option to skip this.

Soon after installing the program and purchasing something, I found that my disc drive would not function. After further research and clicking around in the Control Panel, I found that there was a registry error (Device Error #19). After even more research, I found that iTunes was the cause; just as I had suspected the entire time.

Uninstalling turned out to be a tad harder than it should have been. In order to uninstall, I had to run the original installer; this shouldn't be necessary. All of my other programs have an uninstaller included in their "All Programs" folder. iTunes was the only exception. This might not seem like a big deal, but what if I hadn't tried running the installer? My only other option would have been to manually remove the program's directory and registry keys, which could be rather dangerous.

When the program was finally uninstalled and I restarted my computer, the disk drive worked fine again. Now, let's imagine someone far from "Tech-Savvy" that is experiencing the same issue with uninstalling. What would happen then? They would most likely either buy a new one entirely, send it to some kind of repair shop, or simply deal with the issue. Imagine a computer without a disc drive.

Overall, I don't even care to try and see if there is anything good about iTunes anymore. A program that breaks the drivers for my disc drive is beyond useless and horrible in my opinion. I am never going to install iTunes again. Period.

    "Corrupted my music library"

    March 15, 2013  |   By steveh46a

    Version: Apple iTunes 11.0.2

    Pros

    I haven't found any.

    Cons

Upgraded to 11.02 on Windows from an earlier version of iTunes which worked fine. Unfortunately the new version has lost many files (which are still present on the hard drive) and I will have to rebuild the music library. Really? This is an upgrade? It also seems to have less functionality.

    Summary

Don't upgrade if you can avoid it. It doesn't work correctly and is less useful than older versions.

"Makes me reconsider the Apple Platform"

    March 9, 2013  |   By TooSly

    Version: Apple iTunes 11.0.2

    Pros

    Sadly none.

    Cons

    Extremely non-intuitive.

    Summary

The older version wasn't easy to understand, but was miles ahead this version. I use this software almost exclusively to download to my iPod Classic and Nano, including audible books. I curse this software every time I use it. I will never "just" upgrade to a newer version again; it was a mistake to upgrade to this iTunes version. In fact I am now considering the Android platform for my music and books. Apple as really screwed this one up.

    "Awful. Why?"

    March 5, 2013  |   By inkdust

    Version: Apple iTunes 11.0.2

    Pros

Haven't spent the time to figure it out.

    Cons

Why should I have to relearn how to use software that I've been using for years? Great. Now it looks really cool but won't do what I use itunes for. I miss Steve. This Windows 8 styled crap wouldn't fly with him.
