Editors' Review

Apple Configurator enables you to set up, configure, or install apps across a number of iOS devices simultaneously.

Mass updates: Apple Configurator can synchronize your updates, so that all of the devices in your ecosystem stay up to date simultaneously. This helps keep all your devices and applications working smoothly together.

Ease of operations: Although Apple Configurator offers an enterprise-level piece of software, you don't need to be an IT professional in order to use it.

App installation: Another great use of Apple Configurator is to simultaneously install apps across a large number of devices. If you've suddenly discovered an app that can increase productivity for your team or business, it can be time consuming and frustrating to wait for every individual person to download and install the app. With Configurator, you can sync an app to all the desired devices in a few clicks.

Older OS compatibility: Apple Configurator will only work with the most recent version of the OS, which is a major limitation.

Bottom Line

If you manage multiple iOS devices in your environment, you need a software solution to manage those devices as a group. This solution, direct from Apple itself, is easy to use, provides a number of useful features, and should meet your needs admirably, as long as you keep your OS current.

"Good for a parent who's teens have an i-device"

 |  Version: Apple Configurator 1.7

Allows for a base "image" to be setup and can require user adhere to that "image" (group of apps) IE: No downloads of trashware bogging down the device requiring it to be repaired later. No apps installed without parent adding it to the image. Allows block-list of domains configuration or only whitelist config (you can only go here) of domains. Something somehow get installed that shouldn't be you can just push the image back to the i-device which resets it to the base image of apps that you determined. Our family has all our devices including the iPad i use primarily for work. When we go on a trip I wipe it and set a vacation image on it (no work email, etc) and off we go. When I get back I just restore the backup. It takes a while, but the kids can't "accidentally" sms my boss or delete appointments etc that are in the calendar. Keeps updates from being applied until you are ready for everyone to be moved.

Time consuming to use, but better than the alternative of trying to re-start from scratch.

Nice set of options which are targeted at corporate & schools, but can play nicely in a family environment. (some was taken over by family sharing) Keeps younger users from updating IOS until parent is ready to deal with any hiccups.
