Editors' review

One of parents' biggest Internet worries is "adult content," i.e. pornography. Anti-Porn from tuEagles is an easy-to-use program that helps parents take control of what their kids are exposed to online. Its filters block suspicious sites. If the parents or guardians (or whoever holds the password) approves of the site, they can allow access. Parents and adults can restore unfiltered access quickly without shutting down Anti-Porn by toggling to Parent mode. Anti-Porn takes screenshots and logs online activity when it's running, so parents can see just where their kids are hanging out online. It can even restrict the time they can spend on the computer. Anti-Porn is free to try for seven days.

When you install Anti-Porn, you're prompted to create and confirm a password. Don't lose it: you need it not only to toggle Anti-Porn on and off but also to uninstall it. The program's circular interface is dominated by a cartoon eagle mascot. He's dressed like a kid, but he delivers an adult wink when you switch to the program's Parent mode, which is also known as Adult mode. The eagle eye icon in the system tray seems more appropriate. Setting up Anti-Porn includes custom settings for Chat and Game restrictions, Sensitivity, Language, and BlackList and Whitelist entries. A slider lets you set the filter strength; the default setting is high but not the maximum. Anti-Porn has an excellent Help file with many screenshots to help you get it right.

We were mostly interested in how effective it is at filtering out adult content. In a word, moderately: it blocked common search terms with a holding page, but we were able to view questionable material accessed in specific searches, including Google images. But you can quickly enter keywords that let you limit access to other sites you don't want your kids to see. Your home isn't a democracy, and your children don't have a say in the matter of your responsibility to them. Defining pornography may be difficult, but you probably know it when you see it. Anti-Porn helps you keep your kids from seeing it, too.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Anti-Porn 18.1.9.17.

    Version: Anti-Porn 20.3.1.7

    Pros

Blocks porn sites except YouTube R videos.

Free trial left spam software and also left the blue screen of death as a reward.

"Easy, but can not limit games and sites by time..."

    December 05, 2013   |   By ABerg00

    Version: Anti-Porn 20.2.11.2

    Pros

    Easy, fast, big trial period

    Cons

It can not limit games or internet by time...
So it is not classic parental control
    like Time Boss or PcTimeWatch...
    I'd recommend others progs -
they can to reduce time of use for certain sites too.

"Good Filter With Some Work Required"

    June 02, 2013   |   By ApesR4Kids

    Version: Anti-Porn 19.0.5.16

    Pros

Very customizable. Clean interface, easy to setup and use. Great default settings. Seems to do a good job in filtering out most pornographic websites. Love the white list/black list feature, along with keyword blocking. Compatible with all popular browsers. The biggest plus? This filter doesn't slow down your computer or internet speed.

    Cons

Like all filters it has a tendency to block legitimate websites. But, adding them to the white list fixes this problem. the biggest downside? Does not seem to filter image searches on Google, Yahoo, and other search engines.

    Summary

With an image search blocking feature or image safe search lock feature this filter would be a 5-star filter. Nevertheless, with a little customization and tweaking this filter is proving to be very effective. This one's worth keeping and highly recommended.

"Could use some improvements, but best one I've found."

    September 16, 2012   |   By sleigh-bells

    Version: Anti-Porn 18.0.7.15

    Pros

    Blocked everything inappropriate I tested.
    Very simple to use.

    Cons

Having to choose between no warning at all or my child being exposed to some very explicit language on the blocked page explaining why it was blocked.

    Summary

I tried several other parental control types of software and for me I liked this one the best. I agree with foxyleonard's review I wish it said "Blocked Inappropriate Content" or something like that, but if you go to "Other Options" then "Hiding" and select "Hide Warning Messages" it will not show their message page with the vulgar language.

    "Did not appreciate the language"

    May 08, 2012   |   By foxyleonard

    Version: Anti-Porn 17.6.3.6

    Pros

Blocked the content when I tried to search it and ensure that it would block even the most innocent of searches that could go awry.

    Cons

Popped up a message stating that this website was blocked because it contained the words orgasm, ***, *******, stripper, f***(spelled out) and so on. Just what my 10 year old needs to learn when he decides to look up boobs - a whole new vocabulary to search on someone else's unblocked computer. Why can't it just say "Blocked inappropriate content"?

    Summary

Would not purchase software that uses too descriptive of words to say why a child can't go to a website. Glad it came with a free trial period. I uninstalled it and am trying other software options.
