The CSS Wizard is really useful

Pros
I downloaded this while looking for a CSS editor. This is the only feature that I have tried. It looks really useful as you can see the preview as you change things. You just need a very simple html page to try out the CSS code.

Pros
Has most of the shortcuts needed for basic HTML editing. The tabbed toolbars are a nice feature. Good table creation tools. The tags are color coded. The editing font can be enlarged somewhat, although the kerning doesn't follow the changes.
Cons
The tools for formatting text attributes (font, size, color, etc) involve multiple steps. That could have been better integrated. It's also weak in the area of project management.
Summary
I used Anansi HTML Editor for a dozen years, from Windows 95 through Windows XP, but could no longer use it after upgrading to 64-bit Windows. Did a lot of downloading and testing, and finally settled on Alleycode as a replacement. However, it can't match what Anansi could do in the areas of global search and replace, nor match Anansi's user-defined buttons and text-formatting simplicity.

Free. Can open multiple file types like PHP. CSS wizard. FTP Select. The tutorial makes this a great first HTML Editor for beginners.
Cons
Split Screen can't be set easily by default. Can't add your favorite HTML Tags to the Common toolbar. The SyncroView doesn't Refresh when you "Save." Refreshing SyncroView is slow & takes the WYSIWYG screen to the top so u have to find where u were.

I used to use The HTML Editor (by Home Plan Software). I've been looking for a replacement. Didn't care for Coffee Cup. Tried this and it's the closest to my old The HTML Editor software I can find. With a few tweaks (like on the cons above), it could possibly be as good or better than The HTML Editor. I don't like how, when you double-click the code to refresh the SyncroView SplitScreen, it has a long (like 30 second) delay and then it takes the WYSIWYG screen to the top so you have to scroll down to find where you were at every time you refresh after each change. The other thing I miss about The HTML Editor is how it had buttons on the toolbar for 3 choices: full screen code, split screen editor and WYSIWYG viewer, or WYSIWYG viewer. I can't complain with it being free though. It's pretty darn good for freeware. So Konae, if you're listening, I'd be willing to pay for this is you could fix those few quirks though. Meanwhile thanks for the almost perfect free AlleyCode. :o)

The GUI is actually quite user-friendly; it took no time at all to figure out what each button was for, etc.
Cons
The preview window really is off, even in a variety of browsers. If they ever figure out how to fix it I will probably try this software again. In the meantime I'll use something that displays the pages accurately as I frequently double-check as I go.

Great HTML editor, simple to use and doesn't come with a lot of junk to clutter your computer. Just simple, easy and exactly what you need if you like to build and edit HTML the old-fashioned way. <p> <p>By the way, Alleycode at their site has a fix for the DLL bug. Don't be fooled...it's not their fault...it happened as a result of a Windows Update and they will link you to the page (through "support" on their menu) to the Hotfix at Microsoft.
