Editors' Review

Acronis True Image lets you back up your PC thoroughly, preserving a complete image of your entire system in the cloud or on a local drive. With this comprehensive application, you'll never have to worry about losing any of your files, and if something goes wrong, you can restore your computer right back to the way it was.

Backup options: Acronis True Image gives you multiple options for backing up, including the ability to store your backup on a local drive or in the cloud. You can choose to back up your entire system or only certain files and folders. And once you've created your initial complete backup, True Image will create continuous incremental backups to record only items that have changed, which saves both time and storage space.

Time Explorer: When you restore, you can, of course, opt to restore the most recent version of your files. But if you would rather restore from an earlier version, you can use the app's Time Explorer feature to go back and locate the past image you want. This can be done for individual files as well as the entire system.

Tough for beginners: The main interface is straightforward enough, and if you stick with the default settings, it will walk you through the basic backup process smoothly. However, there are various advanced options that an inexperienced user could quite easily select by accident, and they are not accompanied by clear explanations of what they will do.

Bottom Line

Acronis True Image is a great way to back up your PC so that you can restore quickly and get back on track. While it may not be the best choice for novice users, anyone with more advanced skills and needs will enjoy the power and flexibility that this program provides. You can try it for free for 30 days, with a free 250GB of cloud storage space. After the trial period, True Image costs $49.99, and the cloud storage plans range from $9.99 per year for 5GB to $99.99 per year for 500GB.

Not a single one

Uh, it doesn't work

Please don't buy this - Acronis needs to get the message that this is just not acceptable and they need to get out of the way for companies that actually care about quality.

None whatsoever.

Completely unreliable.

Having read glowing professional reviews, I purchased a license and tried running this on two similarly configured Win 7 Pro ThinkPads in my business. After a couple of days, the software has just stopped working on one of the machines for no apparent reason. The app simply crashes at startup. Repairing it and reinstalling it has made no difference. Does Acronis really expect users to rely on software this erratic to "protect" their data?

"Acronis 2016 Software as Gone Downhill"

January 05, 2016

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

It has a lot of new features, some of which work effectively for a while and seem to do what they claim to do.

It is poorly made and quickly starts to slow down and eventually won't load at all. For me this took two weeks, for others as long as a month or two.

This is the worst of all the Acronis versions. I thought upgrades were supposed to get better, not worse. The early Acronis True Image Home versions (13-14) were great, and did exactly what they were advertised to do. But now that has all changed with 2016 as it is full of bugs. Don't waste your money as any effective support for this product is almost non-existent. I bought this software in 2015 and it seemed to work well for about two weeks. Then when I went to backup one day, the program refused to even start up. Reboot or Click on it all you want, it simply won't start up. Looking on the internet for solutions I found that this is a widespread problem that never gets a answer with a solution. I asked the company for a solution for this and they wanted me to pay them to give me tech support. Only then could they tell me what the problem was. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone where their buggy software won't start after I paid for it, and they require me to pay again to get it to work.

It's a shame what was once a great program is now fraught with bugs that no one has an answer for, least of all the people who created the software. Having paid for this software, I now have to go out and find and pay for another program that actually works and backs up like its supposed to do. Words cannot express my disappointment in this company who seems for intent on double charging that creating software that works.

Acronis True Image Home versions between 2011 and 2013 were great.

1. The first backup with TI 2016 failed to finish...due to a BUG! See Summary.
2. Bugs in the settings for backup jobs.
3. Some non-backup tools won't open.

Acronis True Home Home 2016's first backup failed. I found SERIOUS bugs in its non-backup features. Also, Acronis Support expected me to pay for effective help.

*** Issue #1: TI 2016 BACKUP FAILURE

My 1st backup with Acronis TI 2016 failed. Its Error Message Said my Samsung SSD did not have sufficient free space to finish the backup!

The total backup size for my 'Entire PC' was 134.3 GB.

I directed the backup to a USB 3.0 external drive, containing a Samsung SSD 240GB, that has 217 FREE space. THUS, MY EXTERNAL DRIVE HAD AMPLE SPACE FOR AN 'ENTIRE PC' BACKUP.

How does a backup size of 134 GB not fit into a SSD with 217 GB of free space?

*** Issue #2: 'More Tools' Fails to Open

The TI 2016 has a left-side menu from which an user accesses additional features. A 'Tools' tab is found there. But in that tab, the 'More Tools' section failed to open...and that's where you find useful tools such as 'Try & Decide'.

After 3 Live Chat technicians failed to provide meaningful support, I requested a phone number to call Acronis Tech Support.

Acronis Live Chat Rep Nadeemuddin replied:
"I understand your concern. Also please be informed Acronis Phone support is a paid support. If you need a phone support I suggest you to purcahse Pay Per Incident and once done you don't have to wait even for 3 Hours. I will arrange a callback within 30minutes. "
