Editors' Review

Acronis True Image lets you back up your PC thoroughly, preserving a complete image of your entire system in the cloud or on a local drive. With this comprehensive application, you'll never have to worry about losing any of your files, and if something goes wrong, you can restore your computer right back to the way it was.

Pros

Backup options: Acronis True Image gives you multiple options for backing up, including the ability to store your backup on a local drive or in the cloud. You can choose to back up your entire system or only certain files and folders. And once you've created your initial complete backup, True Image will create continuous incremental backups to record only items that have changed, which saves both time and storage space.

Time Explorer: When you restore, you can, of course, opt to restore the most recent version of your files. But if you would rather restore from an earlier version, you can use the app's Time Explorer feature to go back and locate the past image you want. This can be done for individual files as well as the entire system.

Cons

Tough for beginners: The main interface is straightforward enough, and if you stick with the default settings, it will walk you through the basic backup process smoothly. However, there are various advanced options that an inexperienced user could quite easily select by accident, and they are not accompanied by clear explanations of what they will do.

Bottom Line

Acronis True Image is a great way to back up your PC so that you can restore quickly and get back on track. While it may not be the best choice for novice users, anyone with more advanced skills and needs will enjoy the power and flexibility that this program provides. You can try it for free for 30 days, with a free 250GB of cloud storage space. After the trial period, True Image costs $49.99, and the cloud storage plans range from $9.99 per year for 5GB to $99.99 per year for 500GB.

2016-04-16 21:18:21  |  By hansplie

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

None that I can see. Huge step backwards from previous versions.

Cons

Was extremely slow to get going, then bombed out when trying to backup to USB hard drive. Before failing, indicated that backing up aout 40 GB would take 12 hours

"This software is loaded with bugs. Avoid it."

April 05, 2016  |  By svenvandevelde

2016-04-05 15:08:55  |  By svenvandevelde

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

Nice interface.

Cons

- Unexpected bug appear having to redo your complete backup history?
- Nasty popups appear blocking the offline backup process until a user interaction is done... You expect your backup schedule to run unattended, but is does not.
- Incremental backup versions suddenly get decoupled from the backup history, making your whole backup not working anymore, and not recoverable.
- Support is a joke.

Summary

Avoid this software! As long as people keep buying this software, companies like this stay to exist. They sell themselves as a professional and reliable backup provider, and have a huge marketing engine behind it. But if you open the hood, you'll see that the software internally is crap. It just is unacceptable and i advise anybody to stop buying their software.

"Support is a Fantasy"

February 29, 2016

2016-02-29 09:11:09

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

The software is OK

Cons

The company is lousy. Support is a bad joke. There is no get simple questions answered. All queries lead to their Forum and their FAQ. The Forum is just more elliptical searching and a waste of time.

Summary

The product is OK. If you have the slightest problem, you are on your own unless you plan to dedicate many hours of your time to surfing their incredibly bad website.

"slow buggy unreliable software"

February 26, 2016  |  By stafe123

2016-02-26 06:17:16  |  By stafe123

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

none that I can see

Cons

lots of bugs
works extremely slowly
backup restore does not work!

Summary

I have been using this software for many years and up till TrueImage 2016 I thought it was fantastic. The latest version is awful. I just tried to restore an image. The software slowed down to a snail's pace. After clicking buttons TrueImage would freeze for 5-15 minutes. I tried to restore a 200 GB drive and it took 23 hours with an eventual message stating " recover operation failed-ok". There was no button to click to say that it was not ok.

"My last tryst with these guys"

February 21, 2016  |  By CheechEast

2016-02-21 02:29:53  |  By CheechEast

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

When it works, it works well. Relatively fast backup/compression.

Cons

Touchy and pernicious.
Frequently fails to recognize its own previous incremental backups.
Cannot get the %^$%^#%#@ thing to stop sounding alarms/interrupting w/ pop ups when my backup store is offline (I turn it off routinely), even though I've told it to suppress all notifications.
It is somehow dug into the OS such that if my store is offline, on shutdown Windows tells me that "Acronis is performing operations..." and I get to wait for a few minutes.
Acronis "support" is vaporware. Contacted twice, no response.

Summary

I hate HATE this product. Backup software should almost never be seen nor heard, it should just work. Just like TI2014 did. TI2016 is forever interrupting me to give me status, to tell me it can't find files or stores, and it pretty much ignores my pleas to just do its job. I have had to restore twice from it. Once, it told me that its latest backup string was corrupted. So 50/50.

"A Step Backward"

February 19, 2016  |  By sharadkaria

2016-02-19 08:45:03  |  By sharadkaria

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

Fast backup.
Reasonably user friendly and fast restore.
Cost - if you have been using the product for a number of years.

Cons

A feature to view backup log/history has been removed.
Not truly compatible with Bitlocker.
Support will routinely ask for a System Report, even when it has no relevance to the problem raised.
Time to complete backup indicator is anything but.

Summary

I've been a fan of Acronis since 2009, but ATI 2016 has put a stop to this.

"Poor Support, Program locks and no assistance"

February 16, 2016  |  By kubeeng

2016-02-16 12:18:56  |  By kubeeng

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

Not much. It is not user friendly.

Cons

Every time, I have to delete previous backup and start over. Recently, there is an error which states, "Cannot make an image". After waiting 11 hours for a back-up, it locks. There is no US support. When you go report the problem, it says you have to pay for support. How difficult can it be to make a disc copy program. There are better versions available for real time and on-line like Apple, Google, Carbonite etc... Too bad they don't support their program. It is nice to have a physical copy right next to you. If you buy a hard drive from Western Digital, they provide software for back-up. I feel robbed.

Summary

Don't purchase. Poor support. No US Support. They charge for their errors. Better options available.

"complete and utter crapware"

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

Not a single one

Cons

Uh, it doesn't work

Summary

Please don't buy this - Acronis needs to get the message that this is just not acceptable and they need to get out of the way for companies that actually care about quality.

"Utterly useless"

January 20, 2016  |  By anotherreview

2016-01-20 02:51:08  |  By anotherreview

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

None whatsoever.

Cons

Completely unreliable.

Summary

Having read glowing professional reviews, I purchased a license and tried running this on two similarly configured Win 7 Pro ThinkPads in my business. After a couple of days, the software has just stopped working on one of the machines for no apparent reason. The app simply crashes at startup. Repairing it and reinstalling it has made no difference. Does Acronis really expect users to rely on software this erratic to "protect" their data?

"Acronis 2016 Software as Gone Downhill"

January 05, 2016

2016-01-05 13:46:30

 |  Version: Acronis True Image 2016 1.6027

Pros

It has a lot of new features, some of which work effectively for a while and seem to do what they claim to do.

Cons

It is poorly made and quickly starts to slow down and eventually won't load at all. For me this took two weeks, for others as long as a month or two.

Summary

This is the worst of all the Acronis versions. I thought upgrades were supposed to get better, not worse. The early Acronis True Image Home versions (13-14) were great, and did exactly what they were advertised to do. But now that has all changed with 2016 as it is full of bugs. Don't waste your money as any effective support for this product is almost non-existent. I bought this software in 2015 and it seemed to work well for about two weeks. Then when I went to backup one day, the program refused to even start up. Reboot or Click on it all you want, it simply won't start up. Looking on the internet for solutions I found that this is a widespread problem that never gets a answer with a solution. I asked the company for a solution for this and they wanted me to pay them to give me tech support. Only then could they tell me what the problem was. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone where their buggy software won't start after I paid for it, and they require me to pay again to get it to work.

It's a shame what was once a great program is now fraught with bugs that no one has an answer for, least of all the people who created the software. Having paid for this software, I now have to go out and find and pay for another program that actually works and backs up like its supposed to do. Words cannot express my disappointment in this company who seems for intent on double charging that creating software that works.
