      "This works reasonably well-"

      August 08, 2010   |   By andreaborman

      Version: AOL Explorer 1.5.1.5001.5.1

      Pros

This worked better than I expected it to.

      Cons

This browser is now out of date.

      Summary

After reading a lot of bad reports about this browser I thought I would download and try Aol Explorer for myselfe. And to my suprise it works! Better than Internet Explorer does and this browser is based on IE and I have IE8. Could that be why this browser aol explorer works here on my computer? Anyway,it is faster and more attractive than Internet explorer. And it has lots of themes to customise this browser with and I could play all of the videos on You tube and other sites. This browser works okay. But before you get too excited, the bad new is this browser is no longer updated. The latest version I could get was 2006. Aol Explorer is like Netscape Navigater in that no more new versions are being made but the difference between Aol and Netscape is. Netscape like aol is no longer being made anymore and this browser is no longer supported on You Tube although you can still go on it, but you cannot get onto My Space with Netscape. Aol Explorer is like Netscape no longer being made but unlike Netscape it is NOT officially unsupported. That is when you go on You tube you do not get any messages saying your browser is outdated but you do with Netscape and you can go onto My space with Aol Explorer but you can not with Netscape. Aol has an interesting feature,it scans for spyware and the look and features of this browser would not be out of place today in 2010. Which suggests that in it's day in 2006 when this came out, this browser was ahead of it's time. Aol works with my windows 7 laptop and you can do all of the things you can with your other browsers. I still use Netscape as it works good for me and i will be using this browser Aol Explorer. Of course it will never be as high tech as Chromium or Google Chrome or Flock but it is far better than Internet Explorer, even though Aol,like Green browser is based on IE. so it is okay to use but the disadvantage is it is outdated and like Netscape you cannot get any new versions.

      Updated on Aug 31, 2010

Aol explorer is another browser that is older and has not been updated since 2006. So the latest version available is May 2006 version which I am using. But the good news is it is supported on all websites including You Tube and My Space and it has more advanced features than most Internet Explorer based browsers. Aol explorer is based on Internet Explorer but it is NOT Internet explorer and nothing like it. It is fast and reliable, unlike Internet Explorer. It also works on Google video chat, which is something Internet Explorer 8,which is a new browser does not do. As Internet Explorer always crashes and always causes problems and is almost impossible to brows with. Aol Explorer is nothing like this and is better than a lot of other browsers I know and is safe to use.And as mention it is supported on all websites and it works with Windows 7 too.

      Updated on Sep 11, 2010

As well as Mozilla browsers,Flock,Chromium chrome browser and others, I have a few browsers such as Green browser and this one,Aol Explorer on my desktop. Of all my said to be Internet Explorer based browsers,Green browser,Deepnet Explorer and The World browser. Aol Explorer this browser is the best of the bunch as it does not look anything like IE in appearence and you can change your homepage easily.Although it is old it has not been updated sice 2006 so I am running 2006 version the latest version. But it downloads and updates plug ins without a problem and is fast and has never crashed yet. Also it is supported on all sites despite being 4 years old. Also it supports Google video chat which is also good. If you are looking for an IE engine based browser, this is the best one to get. One question is-why is it when I log into my emails, why do I get the message,do you want Internet explorer to remember this password? When I am not using Internet Explorer?

"easy to use and good functionality"

      August 03, 2010   |   By angelady3

      Version: AOL Explorer 1.5.1.5001.5.1

      Pros

everything you normally want at a click, like weather and email, amongst many other things
      easy to use
      works anywhere internet explorer would

      Cons

I still prefer to use Chrome for most things, but sometimes have to use a browser like this when a site requires internet explorer, like to play some of my favorite games online

      Summary

The only other thing I want to mention other than what's above, is this browser DOES also work with Windows Vista. That's what I have, and it works beautifully for me.

"Almost as bad as Internet Explorer"

      May 30, 2010   |   By dougp3104

      Version: AOL Explorer 1.5.1.5001.5.1

      Pros

One test i give to any browser I use is if it remembers my homepage. This one wouldn't even let me login to my homepage. Like any other thing AOL touches this is junk.

      Cons

One of the three worst browsers on the net. The other two are any version of either Internet Explorer or Mozilla.

      Summary

Don't even bother to download it. You can still get Netscape Navigator or Google Chrome and they both work better than this one does..

"Nice browser; Quick loading of pages."

      July 06, 2009   |   By jackiiee

      Version: AOL Explorer 1.5.1.5001.5.1

      Pros

This is a nice lighter version of AOL's original browser - it's slimmer and the pages load quickly. You can go to their website and download the 'Radio Toolbar' for free and customize the radio to your liking. Music plays crystal clear. : )

      Cons

To get all of the features the original browser has you must go to aol's website - aol.com.

      Summary

Nice AOL browser for free; love their radio toolbar especially.

      "Aesthetically pleasing IE shell"

      March 26, 2009   |   By a62dave

      Version: AOL Explorer 1.5.1.5001.5.1

      Pros

Runs on top of IE6 or IE7. Gives better tabbed browsing support than IE7. [F9] gives preview of all open tabs. Portable Favorites synced with AOL servers.

      Cons

Discontinued in lieu of AOL OpenRide and Desktop

      Summary

      Updated on May 31, 2011

It no longer worked once I installed Vista SP2.
Rather, I should say that Vista SP2 prevents AOL Explorer from working on my computer.
A sad day for me, and an event that caused me to switch away from IE for good.
