Adobe's PDF files are a powerful tool for distributing documents, but when they need editing, it can be a tricky format to work with. 3A PDF to Word Batch Converter helps transform PDF documents into Microsoft Word's DOC files, which most people have the ability to work with. In our tests, the program performed this basic function well. However, the trial version converts only the first two pages of a document, making it difficult to adequately judge conversion speed and quality. The bare-bones interface simply provides a list of files to convert, although the Option menu does allow a user to specify which pages to process, set the document's language, and control how graphics will be handled. The program's help file does not explain how to use these additional features, however. Overall, the program could be a useful tool, but we think the trial limitations and the lack of sufficient documentation diminishes its appeal, particularly since a full-blown PDF-editing tool doesn't cost much more.

  Cons: Only converts 1 page. I remember when Download.com used to have legitimately free software.
