With its realistic graphics and attractive interface, 3D Live Pool makes playing pool on the computer just as fun as the real deal.

The game controls are easy to use, with helpful directions in the bottom left of the screen. Gameplay depends heavily on the use of the mouse, which allows users to adjust their view of the table and cue position. The speed of the mouse movement determines the force with which the cue hits the ball, a feature that does a nice job of simulating the real thing. Users can play against the computer or another player, and we found the computer to be a fair adversary. Users of the trial version can choose between three difficulty levels; purchase of the game adds two more. The trial version also limits users to 8-ball and a bonus game; purchase of the full version adds eight more. Players can participate in network play with other users, although the game must be hosted by a player using the full version of the software.

The Help file contains simple instructions for gameplay as well as rules for the various games. Our only major complaint is that the manual opens in Internet Explorer, which can be slow and annoying for users of other browsers. In addition to the limitations on difficulty levels and game types, the trial version of this game is good for only 15 days. The program leaves a folder in the program files upon uninstallation. However, we highly recommend this program for any user looking to pass the time with a game of pool.
