the Rooster is Mute
dclayton_dotmac- Pros
- Cons
- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This delightful little program started displaying an annoying quirk a few months ago (I think when I upgraded to Leopard) that makes it all but useless: all too often, an alarm will fire and the rooster will THINK he's singing (i.e., the snooze alarm comes up, showing the song that's currently playing) except that no actual sound comes out of the Mac (even though the Mac's system volume is up). I suspect this is some bug in the way iRooster passes commands to the OS -- when it is in the state, i've had the experience of putting the Mac (a macbook pro in my case) to sleep with the alarm supposedly running and waking it back up -- and immediately the song plays at full volume. Quite a few people have posted the same problem on the Chimp user forum, but no one has posted a solution. I emailed the developer and got no response. So for now at least, the Rooster is retired to his coop and I will have to rely on other solutions for a reliable alarm.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've had no consistency with iRooster thusfar. I like the easy-to-use interface, but the application is not being consistent on my iMac G5. I run OS X 10.4.5. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Woody Adams

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
How could I use an alarm clock when the 'ok' button is disabled?? I try to add an alarm. It's all working well so far. Then I change the time of the alarm, and all of a sudden the button gets disabled... "oops" i say - I did something wrong. (even though I know I didn't) .. so I put it back how it was... but I still can't do it. I've tried a whole bunch of ways, but I can't seem to add an alarm without the button getting disabled. This thing needs work. A great concept, if it worked! Looking forward to seeing later versions.
This is a great alarm clock

Missing one vital feature

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It doesn't allow you to have recurring alarms! Really, for a program like this to be useful, it really needs to have COMPREHENSIVE support for recurrency. E.G. "On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the next 3 weeks, wake me at 7:15am. On Mondays, always wake me at 9.00am. On Saturday and Sunday always wake me at 10:00am."

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
... would like to love this program, but the absolute requirement of iTunes is a pain in the a**. Give the program an option to use the built-in sounds as an alternative to using iTunes, and I will be happy to pay for it instantly.
Nice, but...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
...not very useful in its present form. It has a very intuitive and nice user interface, but lacking functionality makes it useless for me. Missing "wake from sleep" is the weakest point, but also its complete dependence on the iTunes library is not good. In my case, for example, the iTunes lib is on an external drive which is usually off during the night, so it is not accessible for iRooster. There should at least be a checkbox "do not use itunes" and one or a few generic alarm clock sounds to work with in the absence of iTunes. I'd also like a setting for "wake me on working days" or "do not wake me on weekends" or the like. A descent radio-controlled "normal" alarm clock does all that, and is no more expensive...
wake from sleep

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
the developer told me wake from sleep would be in the next version. But even Alarm Clock Pro isn't very good at it. Simply go to energy saver in the system preferences, and set it for a couple minutes before your alarm. iRooster also looks tons better (albeit less features which arn't even necessary IMHO) than Alarm Clock Pro too. ACP hardly loses any features you need after the demo period. Sorry for being so random but thats my review.
