Fusion 360 is a unified CAD/CAM/CAE/PCB platform that optimizes the entire product development lifecycle in a single, cloud-based environment. CAD creates and modifies the 3D digital model (using parametric/direct modeling). CAM converts that model into toolpaths and G-code to manufacture the physical part on a machine.

Fusion 360 includes CAM toolpaths for multi-axis milling, turning operations, and additive workflows. Its CAE tools support structural evaluation, motion assessment, and thermal studies. The platform incorporates schematic capture and PCB layout functions for electronic components. Cloud-based data handling organizes files, tracks versions, and supports shared project access.

Fusion 360 handles geometry using diverse modeling modes: parametric, surface, and mesh, within one environment, seamlessly converting between constraint-based sketches, T-spline shaping, and editable mesh bodies. The software accommodates assemblies through joints, motion links, and articulated structures, creating organized component relationships. It also provides drawing tools that convert models into annotated 2D documentation, capturing geometry references, dimensions, and view templates within the same data set.

The simulation workspace features tools for testing structural behavior under varied loads, analyzing deformation patterns, checking motion paths, and examining thermal distribution. These functions operate directly on the model, reducing the need to transfer files between applications. It uses Generative Design to create optimized geometry based on defined constraints. Visualization modes display stress, displacement, and modal frequencies, supporting iterative adjustments. However, it requires cloud connectivity for data management.

It also contains schematic design tools for placing components, defining electrical connections, and routing multi-layer PCB layouts. It enables seamless transitions from electronic design to 3D board representation, synchronizing mechanical and electrical elements. The CAM environment supports 2- to 5-axis machining, turning, probing, and additive processes. It handles toolpath creation, simulation, and setup. Manufacturing data remains closely linked to the design, enabling seamless updates for CNC, 3D printing, and fabrication outputs.
