For the past decade, the only Operating System choices for enterprise mobile applications were Windows Mobile and Windows CE. Today the OS landscape has changed drastically, Android and IOS are beginning to see usage in the enterprise. The leading enterprise hardware vendors like Intermec, now part of Honeywell and Motorola Solutions, now Zebra Technologies, have scrambled to produce android alternatives to their mobile offerings. Yet today there are (conservatively) 15 million enterprise devices out in the field running on legacy Microsoft operating systems. These legacy terminals are either past their EOS or nearing it. These companies will need to start thinking about moving their applications to a new platform.
