Having been an enthusiastic genealogist for several years and having substantial programming experience, I decided to develop genealogy software when I found none of the products I tried quite did what I wanted. Firstly I wanted to give others (family members and friends who have access to my database) a better tool for viewing and maintaining it on their computers. The problem was that these casual users of genealogy software had neither the time nor the inclination to learn all the ins and outs of a complex genealogy package, and consequently did not get full value from the data at their disposal. I therefore set out to build a product which makes family history information more readily accessible and also provides facilities for the originator of the database to distribute and update it, and for recipients to automatically install updates. The result is Genesis, which is designed to read and display databases created by Legacy, the genealogy package from Millennia Corporation.
