Sophos Antivirus for Mac Home Edition is a complete antivirus solution for your Mac, and it gives you the ability to review files identified as threats before they are removed. With this free program in place, you can have confidence that your Mac is not vulnerable to threats from most viruses and malware.
Straightforward interface: Through this app's streamlined interface, you can easily see how your scan is progressing and what threats the program has detected. And when the scan is complete, you can view a list of quarantined items and decide whether or not to delete some or all of them.
Decent detection: Sophos did detect several legitimate threats through scanning. They were clearly displayed in the Quarantine Manager, and we could view the results of scanning even while the scan was still in progress.
Long scans: The program takes a long time to scan. In fact, our initial testing scan wasn't even halfway done after 20 minutes, which seems excessive when compared to other similar programs.
Freezing issues: The app froze several times during testing, usually when it was close to finishing a scan. Since the scans take so long to begin with, this was especially frustrating.
Sophos Antivirus does its job even if the process isn't always terribly smooth. It does do a decent job identifying threats, and results are clearly displayed in the Quarantine Manager. The program is free to use without limits.
Sophos Home protects with both signature based and signature-less/behavioral-based (zero-day) detection including on-demand malware scan, on-access malware scan, malicious URL blocking, phishing protection, and potentially unwanted app detection. Version: Sophos Home 1.1.3
Installation (OS X 10.11.16) went without a hitch. Simple interface, not that you need it - the program works invisibly. Detects PC malware, so you don't pass it on if it lands in your inbox.
Has been "updating" for over 24 hours; web control page says it's out of date. Clicking on the update button gets rid of the notice, but nothing else happens... the "updating" process continues unabated. Making the notices disappear instantly doesn't give you much confidence that it's happening properly, and you have to wonder how much of your bandwidth it's hogging.
Works and scans nicely, but updating process is a mess. Only way to know you're updated is to uninstall it and re-install from a fresh copy of the installer.

Version: Sophos Home 1.1.3
Moving to web controlled interface
Does offer advanced features
Web interface doesn't recognize my computer
Cannot update Sophos (Mac OS X 10.11)
Only way to control Sophos home is now through the web
Multiple install related issues over the last few months
Feels like a hack
I used to be a huge fan of Sophos. It really seems to have gone downhill recently. They are making it all web controlled which is fine until it doesn't work. Would not update for me either (makes AV useless). I have had multiple issues installing this over the past couple months. It is time to look for another solution.
