Combining the best of real-world and model railroads, Sid Meier's Railroads! puts you in charge of building the greatest rail empire in the nation--managing trains, cargo and your bottom line--while engaging in all-out corporate warfare against rival tycoons, slick entrepreneurs, and robber barons!

This demo lets you try out the tutorial and one map that is centered on the town of Towson. The demo scenario is a small-sized map, built for 2-player play, which contains some of the many goods, resources and industries you'll have access to the in the full retail game. You will begin in the town of Towson, with 50 game years to complete four objectives. These objectives can be accessed at any time by pressing the [Victory Screen] hotkey (default: F3). In this demo, you will have access to five specially selected trains from across Europe and the US. New trains will be made available every ten game years. Hint: the town of New Freedom is just to the West of Towson, and it supplies and demands passengers and mail. It's also one of the cities you need to connect to your line as part of your first objective. (Try running track there and setting up a passenger line between New Freedom and Towson.)

It's fun to lay out track and watch the trains run.

Great environment for laying out track and watching your trains run here and there. You can build bridges and tunnels. You can buy other industries in town or cities you want to see grow.<p>The "game"aspect of this simulation isn't all that great but it is the neatest "build something" game I've seen.
Cons
More than anything, this game has the feel of one that is only about halfway complete. It is riddled with little things, and a few larger ones, things that would have been worked out if more time had been put into it. It seems they quit developing far too soon.

Received this from my son for Father's day.

Too bad I can't give it 0 stars.<p>Game won't run, tech supports answer is to turn off programs except for explorer.exe and systray. Even then the game doesn't work, 2kgames answer "well theorically it should run". Well REALLY it does. The longest I've been able to run the game is for about 6 minutes.<p>Don't waste your time or money.<p>Seems just like the original but with updated graphics. Loved Railroad Tycoon, too bad Railroads can run.

Unless your a serious Sid fan you should not get the demo... I liked Civilization and though i should try his railroad series i started off with the 3rd and i must say it seems that w/o tutorial you may get lost since it seems he did an overhaul... again in my opinion unless your like a big fan of his i don't see why you should buy or demo it.
