Opener open links in apps for iOS

Opener enables you to open links from the Web, email, texts, or social media in apps rather than in your slow-moving mobile browser. Opener costs $1.99.

Pros

Two ways to use: Launch Opener and add its action extension to iOS 8's share sheet. This enables you to open links directly into apps with a long press. Alternatively, copy a link from your mobile OS or from an app and then launch Opener to choose the appropriate app to open with. If the app isn't already installed on your device, initiate the download from Opener's list of supported apps.

Over 60 apps supported: Opener supports most major apps, including Twitter, Evernote, Spotify, Hulu, and Google Maps.

Adds value to iOS 9: iOS 9's deep linking technology will enable you to automatically open links in native apps without needing Opener. But you'll still need the app to open third-party apps or podcasts. For example, if you click a Twitter link, iOS 9 will open the Twitter app, but you may want to use Twitterrific or Tweetbot instead. Opener gives you the power to choose.

Cons

Does not support every app: Your preferred apps must be supported by Opener for it to open links. However, Opener's rule set is open source, so if an app is not currently supported, suggest it to Opener, and the developer may add it.

iOS action extensions: If your desired app doesn't support iOS action extensions, then you can open links only by copying them, launching Opener, and choosing the app you want to open with. The extra steps may defeat Opener's purpose for you.

Bottom Line

Opener expedites the opening of links by launching them in apps rather than in your plodding mobile browser. However, Opener will be useful to you only if it supports your favorite apps and if these apps support action extensions.
