Keepsafe Photo Vault: Hide Private Photos & Videos for Android

Editors' Review

by   / June 10, 2014

Hide Pictures with KeepSafe is a free Android app that lets you set a PIN to access pictures in a secure vault. The app includes a Wallet feature, takes backups, and protects your PIN. A beta feature hides SMS messages, too. New features include SafeSend, which shares pictures for only 20 seconds; long enough for a glimpse.

Pros

Secure Wallet: Hide Pictures with KeepSafe comes with a Wallet that stores backup images of your credit cards and IDs. After three failed PIN entries, the Wallet deletes itself.

PIN safe: We could set a PIN reminder and a fake PIN, too. Enabling the Secret Door feature requires a long press on the app's logo to open it.

Camera-to-vault: We could send pictures directly from our phone's camera to Hide Pictures with KeepSafe's vault.

Cons

Gallery needs work: Hide Pictures with KeepSafe's gallery feature lacks useful features such as swiping to resize.

Stability issues: Hide Pictures with KeepSafe crashed a few times in our Samsung Galaxy SIII running Android 4.3.

Bottom Line

Everyone knows someone who feels entitled to pick up your phone and rifle its contents. Hide Pictures with KeepSafe does a fine job of keeping snoops at bay. The app's gallery function could be more versatile, but nearly every similar app we've tried has had the same shortcomings. We're a bit concerned about stability on some devices; though we had no functional troubles with the app. Hide Pictures with KeepSafe has a lot going for it.
