Inline Search for Internet Explorer

Editors' Review

by   / February 27, 2009

Inline Search for Internet Explorer quickly searches a Web page for a specific word or phrase, but it so closely resembles IE's Find functionality, you'll wonder why it's necessary. Right off the bat, we were frustrated trying to figure out how to activate the toolbar. There isn't a Help menu, so after a visit to the publisher's Web site, we found that Ctrl F, the same hot key combo as Find, calls up a small toolbar that attaches itself to the bottom of your IE window. Looking at the toolbar brought on more deja vu. Both IE's native Find functionality and Inline Search feature a Search field, two navigational buttons, and a match case check box. The only real differences lie with Inline Search's highlight feature and toolbar positioning. The Highlight All feature highlights all instances of a word at once rather than each time the word is located. Also, we like that Inline Search's toolbar attaches itself to the bottom of the window so you can continuously search without having to pull up the Find function each time you need it. These two features may make this freeware a worthwhile download, but users looking for a complete overhaul of the IE Find function should look elsewhere.
