Clean (it’s extremely likely that this software program is clean)

Anybody who has ever lost work on a corrupted hard drive understands the importance of backing up data. Genie Backup Manager is a powerful utility that can help save both personal data and program settings, with enough features to satisfy professionals, but easy enough to use for novices. The software allows files to be stored on CD or DVD, or to be uploaded to a remote location via FTP. Archives can be compressed and password-protected, and back-up jobs can be scheduled for recurring, automatic performance. Plug-ins allow even inexperienced users to back up the Registry, Windows settings, and profiles of many popular utilities such as Firefox, Trillian, and Total Commander. Advanced users can create their own backup scripts. The interface can be a bit overwhelming, but a wizard helps guide users through the process. We would happily recommend the software both to data-storage newcomers and old hands.
What’s new in version 9.0.567.891
Version 9.0.566.891 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
Back's up individual files and directories are easy to configure and the backup is reliable.
Cons
FULL SYSTEM BACKUP (Disaster Recovery Backup) cannot be restored. Reported to technical support: Their official response: It seems that Genie Backup Manager can't recognize that there is enough free space on your RAM and this issue has been reported to the responsible department, so now it is better to reinstall Windows and your programs and then use Genie backup Manager to restore your data.
Summary
Good for incremental file backup. Don't rely for total system protection or DR scenario.
The program aborted on me just as it was finishing.

Pros
Nothing good to say, as it didn't finish.
Cons
For me, it was not worth the effort to download it, run it and have it abort on me. I'll stick with Acronis True Image or Bounce Back.
Summary
Don't bother with this software.
Very solid backup solution for home

Cons
1) Initial backup took a lot of time
Summary
I have been using a "cloud" backup service (Backblaze--which I highly recommend), but have felt for some time that this wasn't quite sufficient, because of the time factor in getting back my files in the event of a hard disk failure. So, when I bought a 1 Tb external hard drive, I looked for an efficient way of doing a local backup that didn't use up too much disk space. I wasn't thrilled with either the Windows backup or the software that came with the external drive. I installed the trial version of Genie Backup Manager Pro 9.0, and recently purchased it. This solved the problem. Genie creates a self-executable zip file that uses considerably less disk space than the files being backed up, and I don't need to have Genie installed in order to do a restore. The initial backup took several hours, but I love the incremental feature which does subsequent backups in a flash, and I like the verification procedure that allows me to make sure all the backed up files are correct.
I have done several trial restores of different kinds of files, and each one has been restored in a form identical to the original. So I'm not quite sure what is meant by saying that everything is "raw data" and therefore "of no practical use". I had no difficulty at all finding the restored files, which I put in a location separate from the originals. Also, I have an AMD-based system, and the processor hasn't been an issue. I have not needed any tech support, so I can't speak to that issue.
I still have Backblaze as an "ultimate" backup, so that in case of fire, earthquake, etc., I'll still be able to get my data back. But Genie complements that very nicely. I'm quite satisfied with Genie, and would recommend it to others.
Good Windows-based data backup program
georgeblomme
Pros
The program works consistently well in doing data backup on the schedule you set for it. Its best for the user to select the data to be backed up by selecting appropriate files from the file tree offered.
Cons
Support is a bit complicated - its not readily apparent if you are being offered web-based-program or Windows-based-program support. The support page greets this user with the statement that my subscription for the web-based version has expired, rather than greeting me with the Windows-based support that I'm using.
Summary
Its a good program, and I suspect is might be one of the better ones. You have to be patient with customer support.
Fatally Flawed

Pros
When (and if) you get it set up it works fine
Cons
Crashes out when you try to manually select files
Summary
Not enough de-bugging and development
Have two terabit exterior hard drives filled with data.

Pros
nothing...nothing...nothing
Cons
Since purchasing Genie I have not been able access the data other than as raw data. meaning it has no practical use.
Summary
Don't buy it.
Easy to use
papaziar
Pros
Easy to set up and use. You can change the extension of the backup files to .zip & open them with any unzip program.
Cons
Wouldn't install on one of my machines because it couldn't find a file. (I don't remember which one.) despite several hours of trying, I never could resolve the issue.
Summary
A great alternative to Windows built in backup.
Genie Has Forgotten The Meaning Of Customer Service
tombauman
Pros
At the moment I am too mad at them to comment.
Cons
Support has been shipped offshore and is terrible.
Summary
I have been a satisfied customer of Genie Backup for at least 5 years. For some unknown reason the program recently stopped running. I have been using the Support Ticket System for 6 days and the issue has not been resolved. They send answers at 4am local and then I get no reply until the next day, maybe. They o not always respond.
This is unacceptable and I fired them.
Good back up software
revdfg
Pros
Flexible and it works
Cons
Doesn't work with all proicessors so I can only use on my Intel machines.
