Free Virtual Keyboard creates a full keyboard with a numeric keypad on the screen of your computer or tablet. While this app is designed for use on a touchscreen device, it also works on a desktop and is clickable with the mouse. It has a nice, low-key design, and a few customizable items mean you can make this keyboard match the rest of your desktop.
As soon as you download and install this app, you're ready to start using your virtual keyboard. It will stay on top of all open windows, so you can use it for anything, and you won't have to dig around trying to find it or keep tapping the screen to get it to come back up, although you can minimize it if you choose. There are some nice additional buttons, like one to bring up the Start menu and another to bring up a local menu. You can easily move the keyboard around the screen, depending on what you're working on and what you prefer. The number pad can also be disabled if you prefer not to use that function, and you can make the entire keyboard transparent on a sliding scale to further maximize screen space while keeping the keyboard available at the same time.
If you're looking for an alternative to the Windows keyboard, this is a good option. It works well, has an appealing and streamlined appearance, and it's free, which makes it an even better deal.
From Media Freeware:
Free Virtual Keyboard is a simple and easy to use portable application that has all capabilities of Windows on screen keyboard. It's a good replacement for Microsoft Windows keyboard because of its performance improvements; no visual effects are built inside the application. Therefore, it runs very fast. Although it has no visual effects, you can still apply several themes to this great keyboard. It has a numeric pad too and you can enable it when you have some calculations and need a numeric pad. You can also use this tool on your Ultra-mobile PC, Tablet PC and Panel PC for touch-screen displays. This virtual keyboard is absolutely portable meaning that you can run it from a USB stick anywhere. One of good improvements of this tool against its competitors is that when you press Shift key it does not release it until you press this button again; There are many times that you want to press some keys holding Shift but in almost every virtual keyboard application when you press Shift and then press another key, the Shift key is released then and you have to click it again but in this Virtual Keyboard you press Shift key once and then start typing. The key features of Free Virtual Keyboard are: Portable and easy to use like Windows built-in keyboard. Compatible with all versions of Microsoft Windows. Numeric pad for easy mathematical calculations. Several visual themes. Use of minimum system resources by applying no visual effects. Additional keys functions such as Print screen, Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up and Page Down.
I tried to install this, but the process was more convoluted than most and I accidentally ended up agreeing to having a bunch of adware on my system. I have just spent the last two days using every virus/malware/adware remover I can find to get rid of it and it's still not gone. Will probably have to do a system refresh, which is more time spent on this. All this time wasted, I am having to hand in my uni assignment in late. It sucks that there are people out there that think messing up someone's life like this is some form of entertainment. I Warn you, STAY CLEAR.
