Fotor - Photo Effect Studio for Android

Editors' Review

by   / May 07, 2013

The ability to take endless snapshots tends to leave the average smartphone user with two things: 1) a lot of unedited snapshots; and 2) a lot of good intentions about transferring those photos to your PC, editing them, and posting them online--someday. Someday can be the next time you turn your Android gizmo's camera on, if you have Everimaging's Fotor Photo Effect Studio. This free app lets you edit, modify, frame, and share your snapshots almost as quickly as you can take them, and right from the comfort of your Android smartphone or tablet. It's also one of the most polished Android apps we've yet seen, free or not. We tried Fotor in a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.1.1.

Fotor Photo Effects Studio opens with some awesome HD background scenes framing a product tour in swipe-able panels, finishing with an Eiffel Tower view on the menu page. Buttons labeled Camera, Edit, and Photo Box access the app's main features, while the Settings button opened expandable menus of options. We tapped Camera, snapped some pics, and then tapped one in Fotor's Photo Box view to open it for editing. We could also tap Edit to open any image in our phone for editing. Fotor's full image view includes an info button with a tool for adding notes, Export and Share buttons, and an Edit button, which we tapped. Fotor's efficient editing tool has colorful, well-rendered icons that are a distinct improvement over similar apps we've tried. We started by tapping Low, Medium, and High in the Enhance tool to quickly set the best lighting, and then fine-tuned our image with the Adjust tool's Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpen, and Vignette tools. We could also Rotate the image, add various FX Effects, and frame our pic with Borders. When we were done, it's just a quick tap on Save to move it to the right album or share in several ways.

Fotor Photo Effects Studio displays banner ads, but that's typical of free apps. What's not typical of free apps is the kind of refinement Fotor displays. We recommend it to any user who needs a more streamlined way to edit and share their photos.

How can you tell if an Android app is safe?
